Today in USPS is Better than We Deserve: needed to get new passport photo taken and send renewal form. One guy comes out, takes a couple of shots, prints and cuts them, tells me the right kind of mail, says “don’t wait in line when you’re done” stapling the photo. Whole soup to nuts—15 minutes tops

I've done a lot of work with Sen. Warren's office in the last few weeks in particular, they've been fighting this harder than anyone else I've seen in the Senate, doing the work to push for as many possible creative ways to fight back. The grief on her face is real.

Elon Musk claims he's leaving politics — no one should believe him The far-right billionaire has a long history of making false promises

The press continues to credulously report that Elon Musk is "leaving" the White House.

The first rule of writing about Musk: His words are meaningless.

There are 20 years of Musk's broken promises. Be skeptical, folks.

There will assuredly be natural disasters this summer, likely more than usual, and when that happens it is important to ask how the decisions President Trump is making now will worsen the loss of life when those disasters occur.

One of the tough things about covering Trump’s 2nd term is that he is breaking so many laws & norms that when you cover them each on their own, you come off as an anti-Trump Dem pundit w “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” But when you list it all out things indeed look pretty alarming

If “gender critical” people were facing so much bullying and backlash that a large percentage of them died by suicide and then people mocked them by quoting that figure all the time unprovoked I might almost consider listening to their bellyaching about how everyone is so mean to them

True story: When I was a contractor at a NASA facility I kept M&Ms on my desk. A civil servant I worked with ate a few one day. The next day I came in to find a pound bag on my desk. He wanted to "reimburse" me because he didn't want the few he ate to be seen as a gift. Anyway

I hope it is very clear what antisemitism looks like, and I'll tell you what, it's not an op-ed condemning genocide.

Consider that while Rumeysa Öztürk spent 6 weeks in prison for her constitutionally protected speech, the president's friend wouldn't dream of worrying about such a thing.

Being anti trans is a core part of being a fascist. It's not a distraction, it's not one of their minor side issues. It is a core value

If someone is trying to get you to be anti trans it is likely because they're trying to onboard you

i realize the title is a bit counterintuitive but the answer is that you cannot as an individual guarantee your food is safe. we can, as a collective, push back HARD on dismantling food safety regulations, and put pressure on an unpopular administration to keep our food from killing us.

Dictators, fascists, and oligarchs want us to believe that they are all-powerful and that we’d be nothing without them. The reality is, they don’t create anything. WE the people create EVERYTHING!

This poster was inspired by this passage from Daniel Hunter’s article “10 ways to be prepared and grounded now that Trump has won”:

“It will be helpful to have a power analysis in our minds, specifically that’s known as the upside-down triangle. This tool was built to explain how power moves even under dictatorships.

The central tenet is that like an upside-down triangle, power can be unstable. It naturally topples over without anything supporting it. To prevent that, power relies on pillars of support to keep it upright. … Describing the pillars of support, Gene Sharp wrote:

‘By themselves, rulers cannot collect taxes, enforce repressive laws and regulations, keep trains running on time, prepare national budgets, direct traffic, manage ports, print money, repair roads, keep markets supplied with food, make steel, build rockets, train the police and army, issue postage stamps or even milk a cow. People provide these services to the ruler though a variety of organizations and institutions. If people would stop providing these skills, the ruler could not rule.’

Removing one pillar of support can often gain major, life-saving concessions. In response to Trump’s 2019 government shutdown, flight attendants prepared a national strike. Such a strike would ground planes across the country and a key transportation network. Within hours of announcing they were ‘mobilizing immediately’ for a strike, Trump capitulated.”
