I agree. For me, itβs Fredi Washingtonβs performance that really sets it apart. Washington was a light-skinned Black, just like her character, Peola. Susan Kohner is Mexican and German. It would be like casting Linda Ronstadt in the role.

Voted for the Queen, but the Femmes rebounded from this disappointment with a strong 5th album, Why Do Birds Sing? Their 4th was the cleverly titled compilation Debacle: The First Decade. So, by my math, thatβs 1 classic and 2 solid releases to their credit. Many bands would kill for that record.
