Feeling really discouraged trying to refill my cromolyn RX. The pharmacy keeps canceling my orders because they haven’t gotten new stock. It’s been at least 2 months of trying to get refills, and I would like to not have to ration my medication and also hopefully be free of pressure hives

On my first day back
my colleague asked
what my secret is,
for whenever he travels
he winds up getting sick
but that never seems
to happen to me,
so I pointed to my mask,
and I could tell right away
this wasn’t the explanation
he wanted.

It shouldn’t be considered radical to believe that every human life has value.

It shouldn’t be controversial to say no one should have to prove their worth.

It shouldn’t be divisive to fight for a basic income, healthcare, education, food and housing for all.

People have no idea how hard it is to be a complex chronic illness patient.

They always think they will be the exception.

That we aren’t trying hard enough.

That help exists but we don’t want it.

There is no help.

Many of these conditions have no cure & few treatments. 🧵

Glad to hear you’re not having surgery again so soon!! Hope you’re able to get some good rest at home and the antibiotics help quickly 🩵

It’s so hard to get abled people to understand this! Like yes, I want you to see and understand the hardships, but I don’t want your pity, I want your anger on my behalf! And then I want you to use the anger to do something—start masking again, advocate for clean air, start a meal train, etc.

Having one of those days where I simply cannot get a handle on spatial awareness. I’ve grazed so many walls with my wheelchair in the last 10 minutes

Definitely introverted to start, but I feel this. It’s so much harder to connect with people when it takes so much energy for us! I also struggle with feeling like there’s not a lot of common ground when I try to talk to people who can’t fathom chronic illness

So sorry you’re dealing with this right now 🩵 I hope they’re able to treat you quickly so you can get back home and resting as quickly as possible

PSA: There’s a difference between wearing a mask or respirator & wearing a gaiter or face covering to disguise identity. It’s important to discern & communicate this nuance because if you don’t, you might encourage elected officials to ban masks for everyone, which would be a public health disaster.

Disabled people have been screaming about fascism for years.

We screamed when the government rushed “back to normal” with respect to Covid & said we would be left by the wayside.

We screamed about mask bans.

We pointed out that pandemics historically lead to fascism 🧵

Boycotting is a privilege.

Prepping is a privilege.

Protesting is a privilege.

Leaving the country is a privilege.

Not all solutions are accessible to everyone.

We need robust community care to ensure people aren’t left behind.

“Only the vulnerable die of Covid”

“Genuinely disabled people won’t lose Medicaid”

“How many comorbids did they have?”

“Disabled people are stealing my tax dollars”

These are all eugenicist talking points.

Disabled people are not expendable.

They’re conditioning you to accept atrocities.

Many disabled people can’t “shop local”

We’re housebound and often bedbound.

We lack disposable income.

We have huge medical and caretaking expenses that wipe out discretionary spending.

Instead of shaming us, help us. Take us to the store. Donate to mutual aid. Shop for us.

Every week someone tells me they had to put Covid aside to focus on bigger issues like fascism. The thing is, eugenics and fascism go hand in hand.

Historically pandemics have ignited fascism & normalized eugenics & indifference

One of the most straightforward, radical, life affirming actions you can take right now is wearing a K/N95 mask. Community care & self care rolled into one easy act. Show up for yourself and your neighbors.

They vowed to “Make America Healthy Again.”

Instead, they:

Kicked millions of people off health insurance

Closed hundreds of hospitals, nursing homes, and reproductive health clinics

Cut billions of dollars from science research

Fired government scientists and replaced them with antivaxxers

Absolutely. Sometimes even being around the most understanding people can highlight the differences. Solidarity

The UK just voted to slash disability benefits, while they prepare to roll out an Assisted Dying program

The US just voted to slash Medicaid & food assistance

Canada’s disability benefit is out of reach for most

This is ableism & eugenics. Nowhere is safe for disabled people

As disability pride month starts up, this is my reminder to everyone that you should still be masking. Masking helps keep people safe and helps people who wouldn't regularly be able to join folks because of health concerns welcome in the community spaces we share.
