I once gave a writing task to my students (learners of English), then fed it into ChatGPT and completed it myself. Students then had to figure out which was AI-produced, and which I had written. It was amazing how some of them very quickly identified the AI version. A crucial skill, I guess.

Spending the summer in Brittany, a place to simply forget about the madness of the world. And it fills me with nothing but bewilderment that it seems impossible for humanity to simply enjoy the immense beauty that this world has to offer.

viel schlimmer finde ich ja Qualifikationsstellen (Ph.D, PostDoc), die an Projekte gebunden sind. So muss man jemanden finden, der irgendwie zum Projektantrag passt, und diejenigen mit wirklich kreativen Ideen gehen unter.

Texas officials appeared to be almost entirely issuing vital emergency alerts about the deadly Kerr County flooding via Facebook and Twitter/X.

Utter malpractice to restrict these alerts to social media platforms that huge numbers of people don’t use anymore.

Not quite sure how to describe what I'm looking for... not the big journals, not for articles that are fully footnoted and take for ever to get out, but something to play with ideas, for shorter pieces, ideally get people involved, rather than for finalized findings. Any idea?

A question for fellow historians on this platform: is there any place, any forum, you know of for sort of faster debate, a place to publish, without the long processes of peer reviewing, shorter thought piecess on more general issues of writing history (e.g., how history might speak to the present)?
