Whenever I try crossing around here on capitol it’s just horrible. Not even one driver stopped when I was trying to walk in the crosswalk, even when there are several signs that say yield to pedestrians. Hoping the lady is alright

It’s concerning to see how many riders don’t know about the service cuts that have happened over a month ago! MCTS should really try to notify the public even more than before. It’s really frustrating that we have to deal with this type of bus service all because no wants to fund the bus.

And she sounded pretty confused so I had to tell her the route only runs from 6am-9am and 3pm-6pm on weekdays. So she told me she was going to walk to her destination instead (unsure how far she was going, hopefully not too far). She thanked me though because she didn’t know that the hours were cut.

It’s really hard to underestimate the major impacts that peak hour only service has had on MCTS routes in the last month, especially on route 55. Yesterday I saw an elderly lady waiting at a route 55 stop just after 9am and had to tell her that the next bus wasn’t until 3pm.

It’s crazy how in mid-sized cities like Racine, La Crosse and Superior all have Sunday bus service but the largest city in Alabama doesn’t even on their “rapid transit” route 😭

I’m surprised they even have a BRT route but looking at the schedule, it’s not that great especially when it only runs every 15 minutes during peak times on weekdays. And no Sunday service is just completely wild to me lol

I sometimes stare down at a driver if they are trying to turn left on a flashing arrow (and don’t wait) while I’m crossing and usually they oblige. But once an old man got really mad at me when i did this and tried yelling at me (he probably said some slurs but his window was up lol)

yeah it’s definitely odd what some drivers do that and it doesn’t make me feel any better lol

This is also how drivers act when they literally let you cross in a marked crosswalk, like sir/ma’am legally you’re supposed to stop for any pedestrians 🫠

uhhh the 5100 series (5304 too) have seemingly awoken from their slumber after being out of service for nearly 3 months (5163 hasn’t been in service since November)

I genuinely will never understand why some people protest against the bare minimum of pedestrian infrastructure (sidewalks)

Yeah, my dad has a doctor’s appointment this morning but now he had to be dropped off by a friend since his bus is so late! This is probably the worst bus route breakdown I’ve seen in a while (with 3 out of the 5 buses 15+ minutes late)

uh, why are all the buses on route 92 extremely late right now (one is 30 minutes late)

It’s always nice to see small cities redesign their bus routes, especially in this manor where they straighten out service. Surprised that have Saturday service too (though I wish service on Sundays wasn’t so frowned upon in small cities)

Like the 55 and 28 which provide service on the southern and western edge of the county along major roads. With more service cuts coming in March, the MCTS system will continue to be gutted. If the state doesn’t step in soon, I’m concerned more routes will become peak hour only (eliminated even).

This really is just a complete policy failure. I have no idea how the other routes that only run during peak hours are doing but given how many are being impacted on just route 55 alone shows how bad it is. Peak hour service is just completely unacceptable on major routes 4/?…

There was also an elderly man waiting at the stop and he also told the driver he’s been waiting for hours for the 55 and just wanted to go home to his kids. As the ride went on, several more riders along the route complained they’ve been waiting for a while (up to an hour or more). 3/?…

Which was especially worrying since it was freezing out. The first passenger the bus picked up was an elderly lady that was on the verge of tears because she had been waiting for over an hour in the cold and constantly said “they shouldn’t have cut this bus” (referring to MCTS). 2/?…

I finally rode route 55 for the first time since the service cuts (a few weeks ago) and it’s a complete disaster for riders. I rode the first 55 scheduled (eastbound) for the afternoon and I saw several people waiting to go westbound but that bus wasn’t coming for another 45 minutes 1/?..

Idk why some operators just ignore the fact that there are time points built into every routes schedule. If a driver is over 5 minutes late they should without a doubt wait until they’re scheduled to be there. A late bus will always be better than an early bus.

this has happened once again today 🫠 I was transferring to the 92 from route 51 and the 92 arrived at Oklahoma at 4:52 but was supposed to arrive at 4:59. I just barely made the 92 but me and a few other people had to wave the bus down (along with the 51 driver) to even make the 92 driver to wait.

The interesting thing is a bus lane along 35th street has been proposed for the last few years and a study has already been done but nothing has really progressed since then. But parts of the 35th street viaduct is being rebuilt in 2028 so i guess they’re waiting until then (unfortunately).

But on the plus side you can access a lot of more places along this detour such as Marquette university, the Menomonee river valley and national avenue. Its kind of odd the Menomonee river valley will now have 2 direct bus routes for the first time due to the viaduct closures (PurpleLine, Route 24)
