“The Long Way Home” stick out in my mind as an awesome example of this. Fantastic sci-fi in a single issue.

I had an Italian Gen X coworker in London, vehemently punk and counter culture, who refused to believe that Bowie was bi when I told her. It was one of many weird conversations.

If it’s the staff’s fault, you get a free refill *and* a wash/dry cycle!

I just realised an irony: I once worked for a coffee shop; the building had previously been a laundrette. But combining the two had never occurred to me.

That makes SO much sense!!!

Worst part: I tried to find a middle ground (to end the argument) that “MAYBE you could call it ‘the Midgard Serpent’ (ie. The Serpent that circled Midgard)” and she immediately acted like this was me admitting I was wrong and she was right, laughing and crowing to the rest of the class.

My version of this was arguing with my secondary school history teacher during our viking unit that the World Serpent was named Jormungandr, not “Midgard”, as the class workbook incorrectly stated. I’d been reading mythology books my entire childhood.

Well, I watched as much of that “announcement” as I could stomach. Pretty much all of the stupidity I expected.

This summer, my daughter and I did this with all your Ever After High and Squirrel Girl books. All but two from the library. A great experience for us both.

This weekend was the first festival without our dear friend Piotr, who passed away in July.

We did a tribute to him in the show, then hung this sculpture, co-forged by group members, now forever part of the festival.

GNU is a Terry Pratchett reference, meaning his name will live on.
