Rowling could've lived in her castle and tweeted "Hagrid wants you to brush your teeth and have a happy St. Swithin's Day!" a few times a year and HP would've had the same legacy as Pooh or Middle-earth, but she consciously chose Evil For Evil's Sake like a badly written children's fantasy villain

I will never forgive the rotten bastards we have in charge. 14 years of things getting worse, a huge mandate to change things in a meaningful way, and what do they do? Go after marginalised groups for no fucking reason other than spite and appeasing the ghoulish press. A generational betrayal.

If ChatGPT is not consistently dependable, how are we suppose to use it for actual work?
Discussion
It's behavior and results can randomly change due to some OpenAl tweaking that's opaque.
On some days it can't even keep track of a fresh chat, it can't do calculations, it can't sort through a chat to extract relevant information, and when it's suppose to refer to source material in a PDF, it doesn't.
All because OpenAl trained it for fluency and basically to simulate whatever it can for user satisfaction.
I can use it for general chats, philosophical stuff, therapy, but nothing serious. I'm pro Al, but I approach it with skepticism knowing it's undependable (as I do with anything I read).
And prompts can be interpreted/executed differently across users' own interaction with their Als so it's not truly scalable.
How does the business world / leaders expect staff to adopt Al if it's not consistently dependable? It doesn't even calculate like a calculator. If the internet start claiming 2+2=5, that's what it'll answer with.
I'd use it for hobbies and pet projects but I can't imagine using it for anything "mission critical".
You're so close

Everyone understood *for decades* that shouting abuse at minority colleagues out of contempt and disgust for them would drop you in deep shit with HR. This wasnβt controversial until reactionary cranks decided it was totalitarian and they had an unlimited right to behave as horrifically as they want

Police data indicates overlaps between public violent disorder and domestic violence and abuse

The US defunded the primary UN organization feeding the people of Gaza in Jan 2024 and no one batted an eye. They did it to help Israel use aid as a weapon of war. Now as the predicted famine arrives in full everyone is throwing their alibis together and it makes me fucking sick

It's been 10 months since the US decided to starve the entire population of Gaza based on "confessions" derived from the torture of several UN employees x.com/
This is it: the UN relief agency doesnβt just accidentally get declared a terrorist outfit on spurious grounds, and aid distribution doesnβt unintentionally turn into the opening sequence from Saving Private Ryan. Hundreds of people from multiple countries need harsh jail sentences for this.

If you take nonviolent direct action, Labour will brand you a terrorist.
If you riot, and try to burn buildings down, Labour will listen to your legitimate concerns.

Absolutely dystopian juxtaposition from the Guardian front page. Difficult to understand how anyone of decency and conscience can defend this government at this point. Just sheer moral degeneracy to arm a state that does this and arrest people for objecting. Wtf are we doing as a country?

Reeves says rules and red tape are βboot on the neckβ of business
At the Mansion House dinner she calls for regulators to allow more risk to clear the way for economic growth
Cutting "red tape" (aka public protections), as Reeves is doing, does not save money. Instead, it transfers costs from the rich to the poor. Other people pay for financial recklessness, filthy rivers, air pollution, lax building standards and consumer rip-offs.

Quote from Chris Packham: βIn pipes, paint and petrol, we said goodbye to lead poisoning in humans years ago. But down to the cruel belligerence of the shooting industry, which ironically and pathetically postures as pro-conservation, 100 thousand wild birds a year have been dying through the accidental ingestion of lead shot. I donβt call that conservation, I call it a colossal, wilful waste of wildlife. Top work from Steve Reed and Emma Hardy - thank you.β
GOOD NEWS: Lead shot will be banned! RESULT!
After years of campaigning, the use of toxic lead ammunition by the shooting industry will be banned. This is excellent news for people's health and for wildlife.

Only to then vote to designate non-violent direct action group Palestine Action as terrorists.

This is a dangerous and deeply authoritarian move from the UK government. Terrorism legislation should not be used against non-violent protestors.
It's been condemned by UN human rights experts and Amnesty International have called it an "egregious abuse" of power.
