My cat gave me the biggest scare last night. Had to take her to the emergency vet. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Makes sense since she’s hungry all the time and had lost some weight. $850 later she’s on meds and it seems treatable. Thank god.

AI moderation is very flawed. Tumblr’s porn ban makes that painstakingly clear. The nuclear option hurts people acting in good faith the most. But it’s HARD to weed out real bad actors. Well, it costs a lot of money to do it right. Easier to make good faith creators the boogeyman.

Content warnings do NOT solve EVERYTHING. Moderation is key and social media does all it can to spend as little time and money doing it. It’s why the people who are hurt worst by sweeping bans are the ones who tag their shit.

An addendum: there need to be specific guidelines about what should be tagged. Asking for people to tag eye contact or rain is unhinged. Make SPECIFIC boundaries for what should be tagged like content warnings on ao3. Guidelines are important or you get people yelling because their trigger is hair.

I’m a big fan of cws for nsfw content. If a specific trigger is a common everyday thing, asking for tagging is unhinged. Eye contact might skeeve some people out, but it is something they have to deal with. Big agree with you on this.

The only actual people who can consent in these situations are the people making the art and the people viewing it. A ban does nothing to protect those people. Content warnings and tagging do. Allow the real people making and viewing art to decide for themselves what they can handle.

Banning “non con” and depictions of rape will not stop that from showing up here. What it will do is make people more wary of tagging their posts accurately. More people will, without consent, stumble across the media that pearl clutchers have made a boogeyman.

I add content warnings and labels to everything because I care about the consent of the real people viewing my art. I want people to know what is being depicted so they can make the choice to view or not. This is consent.

Logged on to find out bluesky decided to cater to conservative comfort instead of doing anything that would protect actual people. It’s much easier to target art with content warnings than do the hard work of moderating interactions that are harmful to real people.
