Perfect Streamline Moderne duplexes at 2801 and 2805 Xerxes Avenue (1936) in Minneapolis, designed by Perry Crosier.

A handful of houses were demolished ultimately due to their advanced stages of deterioration. Replacement homes and townhouses built later are pretty sympathetic and match the surroundings nicely.

District residents fought to save the street and also have the street fully pedestrianized. The experience of walking up and down this street is admittedly pretty idyllic.

The houses of Minneapolis’s Milwaukee Avenue Historic District which were built on quarter-sized lots in the 1880s. Constructed for workers as the city’s population boomed, these houses were threatened with demolition in the 1970s as part of that period’s urban redevelopment efforts.
