Don Revie died #OTD in 1989.

Here speaking to Ken Wolstenholme about his role as a deep lying forward (False 9) in 1955. City got to the Cup Final but lost and Revie was named Footballer of the Year.

He won the Cup with City in 1956 before leaving later that year after a fall out with management.

The first is of course, my favourite song of all time, 'Find the River' by R.E.M. - which now that I think about it also closes an album.

What is it with me and endings?

Twilight in Upper West
YouTube video by T-SQUARE - Topic Twilight in Upper West

For only the second time in my life, I had a transcendental experience when listening to a piece of music for the first time recently, this gorgeous track from the end of T-Square's 1987 album 'Truth'.

Well worth a listen.

The Lifting, I've Been High and Imitation of Life of course, but in the listening along with your reviews, really liked Disappear

Losing my Religion will be first but wondering which song scored the next best for you in the rankings? Find the River?

Oh, and forgot to say, thank you for one of the funniest things I've ever heard on a podcast, the "where there's a Will there's a Way" extended bit on the 1992 live show at the 40 Watt episode.

Such a wonderful listen, from the start til now. Thank you!

I was led to believe by R.E.M. that I would feel a lot better about this.

Very much enjoyed the "we're just innocent men" line drop.

A lot of people only want to identify Nazis after they've done the mass murdering bit. The thing is, you need to identify them and deal with them earlier to stop that.

The Google Pixel 9 Gemini AI advert makes me not want to buy it - it's essentially advertising itself as an ex-professional footballer turned pundit who has nothing of substance to say.

Accepting that you were wrong about something (especially a first impression you've held with conviction) is such a blocker to people being able to re-examine opinions.

Finally recognising Bogle as good has to still fit the narrative already established, by framing it as "he's good NOW".

Different Leeds fan here but ultimately I'd see him as a box-to-box midfielder, but he's just a very talented all round player.

Hearing "Prisencolinensinainciusol" being used as backing music for an EasyJet advert on podcasts in 2025 is very jarring.

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, β€œI’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”
