any time someone blindly preaches GIMP as a viable alternative to Photoshop for professional use, an angel loses its wings... and falls directly into open traffic on a 12 lane highway

and ive already bashed GIMP alot before, but holy shit people need to stop recommending it as a FOSS alternative to photoshop, GIMP sucks so much ass, genuinely one of the worst image manipulation tools ive ever used why is it recommended so much nobody coming from PS is gonna like GIMP bro its ASS.

you shouldnt have to get 16 plugins just for basic functionality, or know a dozen janky unorthodox workarounds in GIMP to do shit that Photoshop could do in 3 seconds max

thats alot of FOSS's problem, it fails to consider needs of end users, and struggles to hold up in any professional environment

but the issue is many of the contributors for most FOSS projects have no background in UX, failing to focus on features needed for them to be feasible options, with changes geared towards developers, not end users

that's why much of FOSS is so ugly, clunky, and often very un-user-friendly, methink

FOSS can be great! I'm a massive Godot fangirl ever since I dumped Unity 3 years ago and never looked back, since because Godot is just way better for what I do...

FOSS CAN be incredibly powerful while being active competitors against overpriced proprietary software and like Unity and Adobe

absolutely! Godots been my ride or die for ~3 years now, its been amazing seeing it grow from an underdog to an engine thats actually starting to compete with Unity, especially in the indie scene

makes me rly hopeful that someday, more FOSS will rise to be viable contenders against corps like Adobe

already kinda went off abt this earlier, but as much as I love FOSS its tiring to see it preached as some super alternative to professional software like the Creative Suite...

some of the ones recommended alot really just fall short in comparison, and fail to hold up in a professional environment

at the end of the day though, I think most people frustrated with Adobe will just choose to pirate cracked copies of outdated creative suite programs for daily use, because the FOSS alternatives just really leave alot to be desired and can't really hold up in a professional space, unfortunately

oh ya 100%, didn't mention Krita here, but compared to GIMP its def the way better FOSS program, idk why people recommend GIMP over it to artists tbh

that being said, from my own experience, Kritas also not rly a complete replacement for photoshop, though its definitely a powerful piece of software

again, I love FOSS, and I say alotta this because I want to see it succeed

Blender is easily on par with software like Autodesk, and Godot is getting to that level against Unity, too, with these recent updates... there's 100% a future in FOSS where it can compete and put up more fight against corps

FOSS is its own worst enemy on this front... people who want something like Photoshop don't care about efficiency, if it runs okay... They want something that doesnt make them wanna slam their head in a wall trying to draw a circle

tl;dr... I fucking HATE GIMP oh my god stop RECOMMENDING IT AAAGHH
