My life as a bald person and a dad to a 4-year-old girl in one post: I nicked myself shaving my head this morning and was bleeding. My daughter used up all of the normal Band-Aids, so I had to use one of her mermaid Band-Aids.

We don't know yet. Mainly because measuring proteinuria in mice is largely unreliable and difficult. There aren't any good established methods that I know of.

Hematuria was present by 3-6 months.

Definitely not economics. Urine samples are taken from kids all the time, especially for things like UTIs. My former stepdaughter was misdiagnosed for years despite known microhematuria because her ped didn't listen to the patient mother with a known family history

So exciting to share this! What started off as a "let's see what happens" project has finally come full circle. I can't wait to see this project reviewed and in press!

Metabolism as the next biomedical frontier From harnessing early-life microbes to protect against diabetes, to targeting cardiac metabolism in heart failure, a new hub is proving that metabolism is a common thread across diseases, and the next frontier in biomedical discovery.

The Center for Metabolic Health brings together researchers to tackle major diseases like diabetes and heart failure by focusing on a central factor: metabolism.

This award is meaningful as it not only highlights my research efforts but also carries a personal significance for me. With my daughter, Kyra, living with XLAS, my dedication to research and advocacy is driven by a desire to impact her life positively and benefit others affected by this condition.

In this sense, aging and death are not just biological processes nor are they spontaneous or stochastic; they are unavoidable expressions of the second law of thermodynamics.

To quote Kierkegaard: "Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced."
