I wish I could reread this book for the first time.
Excited!

Oh yea, Dune was a tough read for teenage me-though I went back and gave it another go in my 20s. It was easier to contextualize the 2nd time through
My dude has never seen Star Wars/Trek and just saw (and enjoyed!)Alien/Aliens this year at my behest
I have no idea where to start him Star Wars
I've never heard of Empire of Silence but the rest of these are wonderful. Adding to cart!

@greenleejw.bsky.social I got excited about your @ name but then read your description about being a surprised historian, not a surprised eel.
Every time I see an eel, I hear them say "Surprise!" and for a moment thought I was no longer alone π
A photo of me holding a giant plushie hammerhead shark in one arm and a giant plushie eagle ray in the other. The plushies are huge, easily 4-5 feet long. I'm smiling like a deranged idiot.
Sledge, the 5ft long hammerhead plushie smiling a toothy smile on my sofa.
I don't know who needs to hear this: Walmart has giant plushie marine life that you can just buy.
I left without the spotted eagle ray but I might need to go back for him this week.
In the meantime, meet Sledge the hammerhead shark

You mean I *CAN* pet them???

Cuttlefish? How fabulous! I mean flamboyant!
04.12.2025 23:37 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I inadvertently conducted this science experiment in my early 20s and have had lactase enzyme on hand ever since.
I never should've sworn off ice cream.

07.11.2025 22:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's the coolest thing I've seen all day! I wondered if they could swim with all of their feathers.
07.11.2025 21:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I saw a DM move one from one rock to another in current π€·π½ββοΈ
They didnt look super mobile so I could see how that would damage them a little!
Omg, I thought it was a sea spider. Makes me sad if it was just an injured feathery friend.
07.11.2025 14:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A tiny furry purple crab on a barrel sponge
An orange and black nudi with white gills and ehinophores
A purple, pink orange and white dartfish
A sea spidery looking creature
Some of the tiny creatures we saw in the Banda Sea- I love being able to pick a spot, stop, and see so much life around me. ππ¦π€ΏππͺΈ
06.11.2025 21:07 β π 15 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Clown triggerfish in profile- it looks like an 80s new wave star. A black fish with large white spots on its lower half, an Adam Ant like yellow stripe above its eyes, an orange beak with white lip liner and a yellow and black striped tail with blue and yellow fins on its body
A green sea snake making his snakey way around the reef
A seascape with yellow horned coral, white grabby handed coral, orange and green sponges on a deep blue ocean field
Grabby handed white coral detail
The clown triggerfish was such a standout, it quickly became a favorite fish to spot!
It was also super shy for a triggerfish, preferring to run away instead of attack like the triggers we all know and love π¦ππ€ΏππͺΈ
Banded sea krait making a very snakey shape, almost mimicking an infinity symbol on a colorful background of yellow and red
A pair of ornate butterflyfish take shelter under plates of hard coral. A royal(?) angelfish swims in the background
A very pregnant dark purple puffer with very white teeth gives me the eyeball while swimming away from a barrel sponge and a few orange squirrel fish
Seascape with yellow hored and white grabby hand coral surrounded by orange and brown sponges on a deep blue ocean
It was so much fun to meet sea creatures like sea snakes/kraits who don't live in the Atlantic/Caribbean, different types of hard and soft corals that are thriving despite VERY warm water temps and to see familiar fish shapes in new flavors and color patterns. ππ¦π€Ώπ
05.11.2025 14:43 β π 11 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Ribbon eel in black with a white chin stripe and a jaunty mustache sticks it's head out of a tiny hole to say SURPRISE!
Two sea slugs in black with white and yellow spots
A stone fish eyeballs the camera- he perfectly matches the colors of the rocks around him
A lionfish looking frilly
More from Ambon, a ribbon eel, a pair of sea slugs, a super sneaky stonefish and a lionfish
π¦ππ€Ώπ
Flamboyant cuttlefish making shapes with its limbs. It's gold, black and green
Two morays sticking their faces out of a hole. The larger one is white and in profile, the smaller one is grey and looks like he just told a bad joke
Two cuttlefish trying to hypnotize me into leaving them alone. It didn't work
Another cuttlefish making scawwy shapes to scare me away
The Banda Sea brought the goods on the very first dive!
Flamboyant and reef cuttlefish and morays in new(to me) colors. Wow.

Close up of orange cold water corals attached to the side of a rusty metal shipwreck
Cold water shellfish and hydroids in the foreground, a rebreather diver and the rusty metal railing of a shipwreck in the background
We have been spoiled with amazing offshore dives this year. Warm water even at depth with great visibility! π¦π€Ώπ

30.09.2025 17:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A grey blue eel pokes his weird round face out of a rusty hole in 80 ft of water. His eyes are round and look like stick on goggly eyes. His chin is white and juts out in an under bite
A young grey blue eel peeks out from a little rusty pipe. Seen in profile, his single googly eye looks back at the camera. He has a strange extended nostril and is adorable
No eels here, just a rusty curled bit of shipwreck covered in cold water corals in oranges and white. The background water is deep teal
I adore these conger eels( or American eels? There's been debate!)
They're so googly-eyed and the wreck we dove was full of them!

Sometime in 2008 or so, I was doing work at a NASA data center at the Langley Air Force Base in Hampton Roads, Virginia. While there, I met a person who remains one of my all-time consulting heros and idols.
