Why because buggy users and those with bulky luggage do not have the same adminstration or restrictions as disabled people but take up the same space. It would be ok if we weren't forced to pay extra to travel it feels like a #disabiliyTax 3/3

In the last 3 days my husband and I have done 3 journey costing us an additional €60. On only 1 of these journeys we have had our own spaces despite paying for them. @myedf.bsky.social we have had to share a space 2/3

In Germany as a wheelchair user I am forced to make a seat reservation on trains in order to get assistance on ICE trains. Even though I can't sit in the seat because I am not German with the appropriate disability card it is €10 per reservation 1/3

In the last 5 years I've met loads of disabled people desperate to work but unable to find employment opportunities that meet their needs, particularly people that are constantly getting to interview but not getting the job if you want disabled people in work you need to work with employers 1st

3) Assume competence & don't avoid us. Many non-disabled people seem scared of wheelchair users like we're going to bite them. It's tiring to always be the one to make the first move, or having to prove in every new conversation that you know what you are doing. 3/3

2) Resist the urge when seeing a wheelchair user or a group of users to refer to driving licence, races, or can you give me a lift. 2/3 #InternationalWheelchairDay

Today is international wheelchair day. My wheelchair is my liberation.

3 simple things everyone can do to make life better for wheelchair users.

1) If you're planning an event or just a coffee with a wheelchair user, check that it's accessible in advance. 1/3

This evening I'm at the Scottish parliament at a reception for @rnibscotland.bsky.social to celebrate 200 years of Braille. I think it is really important that blind people should be taught Braille technology is giving access like never before knowing Braille gives people choice

People often ask me what #Taskmaster has to do with law & my answer is always the same:

TM is ALL ABOUT LAW...

Reading a rule, interpreting it, arguing in front of a judge that your interpretation is correct if there is a semantic dispute.

Hence why it is a beautiful vehicle for legal outreach πŸ‘Œ

A bright pink instructional graphic titled β€œHow to sleigh alt text.” It includes colourful headings labelled Identify Who (in green), Expression (blue), Description (pink), Colour (red), and Interesting Features (grey). On the right side, there’s a sample alt text description in various colours that reads: β€œSanta Claus looking happy as he waves at the camera. He wears a traditional red suit and hat and has a long white beard and glasses. There are colourful lights twinkly behind him.” Below the text, a photo of Santa Claus is shown, waving with a big smile against a background of twinkling, colourful holiday lights

Alt text? Don’t worry, Santa’s elves have your back! Writing great alt text is simpler than you think.

Got questions? Ask our alt text elves!

I am in the 2nd space however it is booked from Lancaster I raised this with the train manager who just said that it's a problem for the next manager who gets on at Carlisle he also seemed to imply that if there is a 2nd wheelchair user they may not be allowed to board because of luggage.
