No praise for performing the barest minimum without any contrition. His original take was more than callous; it was barbarous. He then lectured us about how the mentally ill homeless deserve *our* compassion, not *his* compassion. No praise is due such a perfunctory performative apology.

Ugh... "deserve our compassion" versus "deserve MY compassion." He expressed what *he* thought should be done about homeless people, and his apology should have expressed *his* contrition. He diluted his personal responsibility with a lecture that we, not he, should feel compassion.

*Callous* seems insufficient. In context his remark was meant to definitively close a conversational segment that described the homeless as a pernicious threat. The remarkable was more barbarous/cruel than callous/indifferent.

I see some are praising Cox for his statements, but these words seem both overly simplistic, slightly ungrammatical and tautological. And why isn't the word *aggression* used more often.

Your cynicism is understandable and, sadly, defensible. As I said initially, I think the show ultimately benefits farming and climate awareness overall. It ultimately cannot deny that farming is increasingly difficult/impossible in our political and existential realities.

I nearly quit watching during the first season (which becomes more obnoxious as it goes on), both because I found myself actively disliking him and because it seemed an insincere frivolous effort. By the end of the second season however, it appeared he was serious, and grew more so as time went on.

I find the show hilarious and entertaining, though often like watching a benign car wreck. Clarkson is a paradox, cocksure of his abilities, but surprisingly accepting when he is found out. On balance, I think it does farmers and climate awareness a favor.
