I like to talk about: narrative, paratext, a/b/memoir, digital culture, ed policy/law, + pop culture things (musicals π). I never comment on Current Events. [[Views= 100% my own.]] [Pronouns: they/them]

22.11.2025 15:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Problem is: Neither our work culture nor our education culture incentivizes deep learning. Instead, we're incentivized to economize--to learn only what's needed to finish the task or get the answer right on the test.
So, people use ChatGPT, even when they know they could learn more by other means.
I wish I could fast forward to March :/

05.11.2025 17:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I could never be admin. I have realized.
I care too much about listening to what people with resoundingly more expertise than me have to say about projects and issues.
I also lack that irrationally powerful schoolboyish impulse to "do something cool" despite more important priorities.
Yes, it's true. I did think eric adams was a puppet we were all pretending was real. Y'know as a bit. It's easy enough to believe. They gave him a stern puppet mouth. Cold puppet eyes (Don't judge me too harshly. I went to uconn. Anyone or anything could be a puppet at any time).

If you've ever wondered what the less fun parts of higher education can be like....
16.10.2025 23:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There is good news this week, actually. Katie found a Herman Miller chair at the goodwill for $20. Great condition. Yes, a real one. I feel this is an occasion to break out the #blesstd hashtag.
09.10.2025 23:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also a number of students from the university have shown up to speak with thoughtful eloquence on issues that are really important to them. Seeing that civic engagement (on a school night!) makes me really proud of the populations I work with.
09.10.2025 02:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You don't show up to a city council meeting and IGNORE procedure. Come on now. That's amateur, basic, and tacky.
09.10.2025 02:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I feel like the lawyer absolutely ignoring procedural rules says everything we need to know about how that location/ Circle K in general operates.
09.10.2025 02:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Huge showing of people who don't want the Circle K. Just the company's lawyer is in favor of it, but I THINK she's biased.
09.10.2025 02:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0People go there for two reasons: 1) they can't find any other gas station, or 2) to give up on life.
09.10.2025 02:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Look, the ONLY people who want more Circle Ks in Tucson are Circle K owners.
Those gas stations are, to borrow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, literal Hellmouths.
I'm attending a city council meeting. Circle K wants a liquor license for *another* location in town and pro/anti positions are voicing opinions.
Pro: Circle K's lawyer, is allotted 5 min talks for 10.
Anti: Multiple residents from near the location, are allotted 5 min, talk for 5 or less.
no more current events, please
02.10.2025 12:59 β π 223 π 52 π¬ 9 π 3"Fat Troops" actually sounds like a grad school party theme. Subverting the "discipline (subjugation) of the body" in uniform aesthetic into a "celebration (liberation) of the body" in a uniform aesthetic.
Drink themes would be a fun challenge.
Mmm. just thinking about this vegan pumpkin spice poptart with maple glaze that my friend once made for me. A once in a generation confection.
A tear comes to my eye.
No poptart will ever be as good.
I won't get into which "Much Ado" is this one for me. But it's one of them.
(No, you're wrong. It is not the Kenneth Branagh.)
You ever see something done with such incredible skill that it becomes your new bar for how that thing should be done? Like an article so good it becomes THE writing standard for you?
Those things/ moments/foods/texts sure are inspiring :-)
It bet it's because Professor Xavier wasn't asked about his Why enough.

1 of the many things I've learned in the last 12 years working in higher ed is this:
if an individual, org, center, or group consistently finds that faculty don't like working with them, and faculty push back on working with them.... it's really not the faculty that are the problem. π€·ββοΈ
