I think the movement has outgrown and outpaced Trump. I don’t think Trump created a movement so much as he took the reins of what was already there. Sure, he provided a focal point & funnel through which to centralize far-right ideology into the mainstream republican base. But he isn’t everything.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.
