I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

Sincerest condolences to family, friends and colleagues in the SNP.

The story being circulated that Anas Sarwar slagged of Billy Connolly is such obvious fake news that's it's a depressing insight into how gullible or dishonest some people are.

I used to scratch my head as to how they all allowed the world to go to hell in a handbasket in the 1930s and why not enough was done to prevent it. We all know now.

08.01.2025 14:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Professor Alexis Jay said that starting a new inquiry could hinder the implementation of the recommendations from her 2022 report. "We have set out what action is required and people should just get on with it," she told the BBC. She added: "I've certainly been very unhappy about the politicisation of child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse in the way that many people, sometimes in a very uninformed way, have waded into the argument."
Professor Alexis Jay, who led a 7-year review of sexual abuse which reported in 2022, says starting a new inquiry would delay any implementation of her own recommendations:

I attended an emergency meeting of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse CLP last night, where I was pleased to back the motion in support of Waspi women.
Grateful to party members for taking a stand, calling for a fair compensation scheme. Waspi women deserve justice.
The text of the motion reads: Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse CLP notes: (a) the findings from the UK Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) into the womenβs state pension age and associated issues; (b) acknowledges the PHSO conclusion that women affected are owed compensation on the grounds of maladministration by the Department of Work and Pensions, as the state pension age changes were not adequately communicated to the women affected; (c) that many 1950s-born women, including over 14,000 in South Lanarkshire, have experienced financial loss and negative impacts on their health and emotional wellbeing. This CLP therefore: (a) fully supports the WASPI campaign and calls for a swift resolution to this ongoing injustice, which must include a fair compensation scheme; (b) regrets the announcement on 17 December 2024, by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, advising that no compensation will be paid; (c) agrees with the 20th of November South Lanarkshire Council motion calling for fair compensation; (d) further agrees with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar that the government could have arrived at a βa fairer compromiseβ for the women affected. Furthermore, this CLP calls upon the National Policy Forum to make it party policy for women affected by this issue to be suitably compensated for the injustice they have suffered.
Yesterday evening members of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse Constituency Labour Party passed a motion in support of the campaign by Women Against State Pension Inequality (#WASPI)
The text of the motion reads:
