17.12.2024 17:07 โ ๐ 69 ๐ 62 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 8The top 5 of my Spotify Wrapped this year was the Pet Shop Boysโ โGo Westโ and then all Broadway musical soundtracks, so I may have some news for my wifeโs gender identity.
10.12.2024 16:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I remember learning about the Age of Exploration in secondary school and just being in awe at the idea that an Atlantic crossing went from being a months-long gruelling endeavour to something you could do in a few hours in relative comfort. Dunno why exactly, but I was hooked from then on.

19.11.2024 08:15 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 21 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about.
1) Queer Irish emigration in late c.20 London
2) History of Irish โalternative sexualitiesโ (BDSM, polamory, swinging, etc)
Labour will still be getting a transfer from me, but itโll be a low one. I donโt believe theyโll actually deliver on any promises, happy as they are to prop up a coalition with bigger (centre-)right parties. But theyโre preferable to the far-right who would be all too happy to deliver on theirs.
17.11.2024 14:57 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I said I would like to see a commitment from Labour to rule out coalition with FF/FG. The response? Theyโll need to wait until after the election to see how the numbers shake out. Which, like, thatโs the entire problem! Do you not see that? How does that inspire confidence for progressive voters?
17.11.2024 14:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It was for a Labour candidate too, which made the whole thing sit even worse. Iโve come to expect this from FF and FG candidates, but when I see smaller parties doing it - especially (nominally) left wing parties - I canโt help but feel a little saddened. Your policies are popular! Lean into them!
17.11.2024 14:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Like, isnโt part of this whole process having conversations on the doors with voters? If youโre in such a hurry to get away and donโt want to actually talk policy, then why not just send leaflets out in the post? Or better yet, donโt even bother leafleting at all and save on waste.
