why is this mayoral election different than all other mayoral elections?

in all other mayoral elections, we get to see andrew cuomo lose but once. but in this mayoral elections, we get to see him lose *twice*.

Not including mailed ballots (more than 107k of which have been returned), this fully local election is likely to have a turnout that exceeds 2 million by the end of the night. It will definitely be the highest turnout in a NYC municipal election since 1969, the last time we topped 2 million.

Teen Vogue did some great journalism around immigration detention and enforcement. Sounds like corporate has now killed that off.

The media landscape shrinks even further.

This is devastating. @teenvogue.com has had some of the best political coverage of the last decade. Maybe longer.

No Kings Denver speaker Joe Salazar (fmr Dem state rep) tells me they estimate 25-30k gathered in Denver today, similar to the No Kings protest earlier this year. This view is from photographer Cheney Orr for the New York Times. #copolitics

As someone who attended public school K-8 and now has kids in them, his comments confused ME. I understand the DOE system, but I can’t imagine what people unfamiliar with CEC meetings or without kids thought of it.

Local NYC reporters should moderate all debates. National included.

This answer from Sliwa was significantly better than Cuomo’s and I am wildly surprised and at the same time not, because Sliwa was actually in NYC during its hardest years (which are definitively NOT now).

We're 30 minutes into this debate and no one has asked a single question about education, transit, policing, housing, etc etc

Agreed. He was polling abysmally and his name is still on the ballot. So it changes next to nothing. It just means his donors abandoned him and his campaign is broke.

In Dark Times, Americans Need Leadership That Unites Our response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination must be better.

So, the New York Times totally told Bloomberg that, after the comment section got out of control, they couldn’t publish another column like Ezra’s from last week, and he decided to self-publish it instead. Right?

In short, Alex Bores has been doing the leg work on both sides of the district, Micah Lasher less so.

This week, I was out w/Manhattan District Leaders. The East Side DLs had either never met or only briefly interacted with Lasher, while the West Side DLs knew Bores well and liked him, even if they planned to support Lasher later. This aligns with my experience with voters on both sides of the park.

Ezra-

Your piece on the death of Charlie Kirk was reckless, insulting, condescending, and worst of all, a piece of hagiography. For someone who claims to honor history and context in your work, it reads as if it was written by someone who respects neither of those things.Β

What does it mean to practice politics in the "right way"? For whom does a "taste for disagreement" benefit? Certainly not the vulnerable populationsβ€”trans people, Black women, and moreβ€”who Kirk routinely targeted with hate speech and calls for violence.Β

When I was a college intern at NBC News Washington in 2008, I would watch your MSNBC appearances on the monitor in our office. At that point I could only dream of having a platform like yours, which has grown exponentially since then. Now that I have a platform (albeit it much, much smaller than yours) and I couldn't fathom using it to gaslight the country into believing a hateful man stood for a public good. Maybe it's time to consider how you're using yours.Β

In his Oval Office address on political violence, Trump lists the attempt on his life, the Scalise shooting, and attacks on ICE agents.

He does not mention Jan 6th, the attack on the Pelosi family, the Hortman murders, the kidnapping attempt on Gretchen Whitmer, or the fire at Gov Shapiro’s house.

"Political violence, unfortunately, has ramped up in this country ... I think there are people who are fomenting it in this country. I think the president's rhetoric often foments it."

"Just the other day, I was in the audience at Lincoln Center when Justice Amy Coney Barrett said, while promoting a new book, that she doesn't think the United States is in a constitutional crisis," Farias told us. "Today, the Supreme Court, without offering a single line of reasoning, more or less declared that the Fourth Amendment, which protects everyone from unreasonable searches and seizures, nonetheless allows the Trump Administration to arrest and detain anyone who looks Latino, citizen or not, on account of the language that they speak or the kind of jobs they do. The ruling putatively covers the Los Angeles area, but the effect could be national," he continued.

The New Yorker asked me β€œhow bad” today’s Supreme Court ruling was. I boiled it down to one paragraph:
