The battle did leave its scars. They most certainly did as part of the air landing brigade, initially to protect the DZ/LZ’s of the 2/3 lifts. Of the individuals we are following, one died of wounds in the Tafelberg and the other was made POW following the White House fighting.

It was nice to stop off at the Le Touret Memorial and Cemetery where we did a Christmas Truce stand for the school battlefield tour. Amongst the graves is Bill Bannister, one who didn’t get the chance to shake hands, exchange gifts or fraternise with the enemy on that Christmas day in 1914

Just finished reading β€˜Behind The Wire’, the diary of Captain John Dixon, a tankie captured during the fall of France in 1940. An excellent, detailed diary, edited by Paul Johnson. I would highly recommend this book for the insiders #POW view of captivity during #WW2

Remains of soldiers reburied in Gallipoli after β€˜exceptional’ discovery A discovery of human remains on the Gallipoli Peninsula has led to a reburial and blessing ceremony at the No 2 Outpost Cemetery in TΓΌrkiye.

When we were out last September we explored much of the burnt ground near Chunuk Bair and can concur to the bone fragments (probably both Allied and Ottoman) in that area. Good to see some of these have been recovered and buried together in peace www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3607...
