Sketchbook open to a painting of a woman resting her head in her hands against a brown background.

Closeup of painting, showing a woman resting her head in her hands. The painting is mostly in neutral tones and shades of brown. The woman's eyes are closed And she appears frustrated or dejected. The artist of the original painting is Gabriel von Max.

My gouache study of a detail from von Max's "Get Finished Flowering."
I used more of a traditional watercolor technique for the gouache here, so the white is the white of the paper!

Yes, nothing says "I should be in charge of honoring America's fine arts at the Kennedy Center" quite like being a low-brow philistine schmuck who broke tradition by refusing to go to the Kennedy Center to honor America's artists. I just never thought I'd see Kid Rock and Hulk Hogan get the award.

This is one of my favorite things you've painted so far! The composition is so well thought out!

I used to try to avoid posting about politics too much, because I know people followed me for art and comic stuff.

But politics are affecting my ability to exist and create art, so I'm going to keep posting about politics until it gets better.

You’re not going to get your creative project off the ground if you’re afraid of being seen as cringe by friends and strangers. Cringe is unavoidable, just do the thing you want to do

a screenshot of an email from etsy. It reads:
"Make your shipping prices stand out
The perfect price for your items is one that’s both profitable AND competitive. And one way to stand out is with lower shipping prices. High shipping prices can discourage shoppers from completing their purchase. When handling and package fees are included in the shipping price, that makes it even more expensive.

To help ensure buyers see shipping prices that better meet their expectations, starting March 3, we’re removing the option to charge handling and package fees as part of shipping prices and you’ll no longer be able to add these fees into your shipping settings. Your settings will be updated automatically so there’s nothing you need to do."

"Things might be tough but it's great for artists! They'll create more!" You might not believe me but going through a lifetime's worth of stress Every Single Week for years and years- is actually not the optimal set of circumstances that inspires artists to create

It’s getting harder and harder being someone trying to live off their art online with social media sites disappearing/going to shit and censorship laws hitting Hays Code levels.

Like I just want to draw comics man wtf!

This is so random, but (a while ago) I came up with the term "the alcohol-tism addiction pipeline" in the comments of one of your lives on TT, and it has lived in my head rent-free every since. Your old lives were such a good time.

People might bring up Vincent van Gogh as an example of a painter who did great work in spite of, or because of, his suffering. I like to think that van Gogh would have been even more prolific and even greater if he wasn't so restricted by the things tormenting him. I don't think it was pain that made him so great, I think painting brought him whatever happiness he had.

β€”David Lynch

The hardest part of having a full time illustration career hasn’t been finding clients or even making art. The hardest part has been about FINDING time to create and reach out to possible clients because of how much admin work goes into maintaining everything I do to keep myself afloat
