I hadn’t thought about the consequences of reading about traumatic events on people. It makes sense. I wish we dealt with trauma better and understood the far reaching implications.

My neighbor has one and I called her after I drove into my condo community yesterday to 6 different people doing things that initiated an unease feeling to check her cameras. Nothing illegal just milling around and we have a problem unit in the community.

When I went to double check my terminology it is also used for people who can just play music from sheet music without hearing it first. Which is so interesting since what I thought of as being great was playing by ear which my sister can do. Minds are so weird.

I don’t read using phonics. I see the word and understand it from context or memory. I am a horrible speller and don’t easily pick up languages or know how to pronounce words. My reading vocab is bigger than my audio. All of this was reinforced when I was learning to read sight reading the way.

I have s as minor quibble with that-then people can continue to call it elite. Although please note I don’t have a solution snd readily acknowledge that.

Do you find rereading a book gives you time to think about the book’s message? I find sometimes the first time around I am just too into the story and not thinking about the author’s undertones.

Hadn’t thought much about things like that. The radio was always and still is on at my parents house and was always tuned into npr. I like to work to npr or music but am comfortable with silence too and it’s often silent at my house. It’s strange how childhood can be so influential.

I understand better why I don’t like nonfiction but do enjoy science fiction/fantasy with audio after reading the article. It also explains why sometimes I become engrossed and will just sit and listen. I wonder if growing up reading and listening radio reader from npr makes a difference. Thoughts?

I find it depends is it nonfiction or fiction for me. Nonfiction doesn’t work for me to listen unless it’s biographical. Also it depends on my emotional state. A friend once told me that reading is a higher learning skill and I wonder if listening to audiobooks is also a higher learning skill.
