Our ship was wrecked on the sea coast of Tibet. The first thing we saw were several Egyptian Aztecs arriving from Norway.

Heat map-style graphic showing monthly mean global surface air temperature anomalies from January 1850 to December 2025. There is a long-term warming trend evident in each month. Blue shading is shown for colder months, and red shading is shown for warmer months. Annotations are shown for the year of each warmest respective month. All of these records have occurred within the 2023 to 2025 period in this dataset. Anomalies here are calculated relative to a 1850-1900 baseline. Data is from NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI NOAAGlobalTemp 6.0.0.

A Software Library with No Code Do we still need libraries of 3rd party code when AI agents are this good?

Today I'm launching whenwords, an open-source software library with NO CODE.

whenwords supports Ruby, Python, Rust, Elixir, Swift, PHP, and Bash. I’m sure it works in other languages, too. Those are just the ones I've tried. www.dbreunig.com/2026/01/08/a...

The β€˜Danish model’ is the darling of centre-left parties like Labour. The problem is, it doesn’t even work in Denmark | Cas Mudde This week’s local elections are the latest reminder that when social democrats move rightwards, they’re making a mistake, says academic and author Cas Mudde

After more than 10 years of β€œthe Danish Model”, nativism is hegemonic in the country, the far right polls near level highs again, and the Social Democrats lost Copenhagen and poll at historic low.

European Social Democrats should look at the facts, not the myths!

Bu Feng Holding the Sword. It is indeed like a sword. Uneasy. This one I love though.

NEW: Global fossil fuel use will peak before 2030 – unless 'stated policies' are abandoned

Contra some terrible news coverage, IEA World Energy Outlook shows coal near peak, oil peaking by 2030 & gas by 2035 (see chart)

What's going on? 🧡 + cool charts

China NEV sales rise to nearly 1.4 million in Aug as exports double, CAAM data show BEV sales in August rose 40.5 percent year-on-year, while PHEV sales grew 7.5 percent.

Yet PHEV sales do not rise in Chinese market as much as BEVs do (for example in August BEV +40% YoY, PHEV +8%).

I'm not sure many folks realize just how persistent the warming from CO2 is.

Here is a set of 1000-year climate model runs (using FaIR) simulating one year of CO2 emissions (40 gigatons in 2020); a millennia later the world has not cooled back down!

Currently the EU-wide target is 93.6 but then the exact value for each manufacturer is somehow adjusted.

The fleet emmission rules (fines for co2 above a threshold, which is since 1/2025 around 91g/km I think? until 2030 when that drops to 49g/km and then to 0 in 2035) are EU-wide incentives, or disincentives, and have been since 2020 or so. Some countries have additional policies in place.

Especially "funny" that the heads of both ANO and SPD are not Czechs sensu stricto - Babis is Slovak who moved to Czechia in the 90s and Okamura is half-japanese born in Tokio.

We focus way too much on what politicians say ,or allegedly believe, rather than what they actually do.

Alleged β€œbeliefs” are also often used to justify illiberal and undemocratic policies and rhetoric.

It's a personality trait and in some ways it's good to have for them, otherwise they would crumble under the immense pressure in no time. It can also be argued that both Blair and Merkel were able to underpin this confidence with actual good instincts to survive.Unlike too many overconfident others.

They try to paint Tyler as left, but like Crooks this is a fringe right wing Groyper.

It's cheaper than full EV. However now with real-world emmissions known and far worse than the WLTP numbers, they will be disadvantaged by the fleet emmission rules/penalties.

Hello from Slovakia. By law you have to carry ID unless you are in your home town, but there is no fine or punishment if you don't.
OTOH it's very practical compared to the ID chaos in the UK.

Oh no, I'm a complete fan of replacing fossil fuels with clean electricity everywhere ASAP. It's just not going to be as fast as some of us wish. Even in Norway with 97% BEV marketshare the fossil fuel usage is going down slowly.
