Katie Couric, Margaret Sullivan Furious at Trump’s Insults to Journalists: ‘News Organizations Should Push Back, Hard’
What's the right response when President Trump calls a woman journalist "Piggy"? Or pronounces another woman journalist "a terrible person"?
Great @sharonwaxman.bsky.social column on Trump’s ugly personal attacks on journalists, with thoughts from @katiecouric.bsky.social and @sulliview.bsky.social
“They should not be tolerating this level of bullying and demeaning and insulting language,” says Couric

Patrick Soon-Shiong Wants to Raise $500 Million for the LA Times, but Who Would Invest? | Analysis
Patrick Soon-Shioing is circulating a private placement offering doc that is laden with the downsides that overshadow much happy talk.
My colleagues Tom Lowry & @calderone.bsky.social dug into the querulous bid by DrPatSoonShiong to raise $500 million to IPO the Los Angeles Times, bleeding $50 mill last year. As he demonstrates, the numbers don't add up, leading to the question: who would buy in? www.thewrap.com/la-times-pat...

Opinion | Democrats Need to Chill About the Electability of Women
One of the biggest problems facing Mikie Sherrill’s bid for governor may have nothing to do with Mikie Sherrill and everything to do with a certain pundit-class miasma about the supposed unelectability of women.

Zohran Mamdani’s Flood-the-Zone Media Strategy Looks Like a Winning One | Analysis
The NYC mayoral frontrunner is urging Democrats to “take the case to every person.” They should pay attention.
Looking at Zohran Mamdani's media strategy this past year, from a viral video speaking to Trump voters to speaking to Trump on Fox News, the NYC mayoral frontrunner has been remarkably consistent in hammering home his affordability message.

It's true... I’ve been honored to run the Hive for the last several years, working with some of the best in the business. I'm immensely proud of the work we did through two presidential elections and a pandemic, and amid the persistent news cycle churn—will be rooting for the VF team going forward.

“Even God Cannot Hear Us Here”: What I Witnessed Inside an ICE Women’s Prison
Tufts University doctoral student Rümeysa Öztürk opens up about her 45 days in a South Louisiana processing facility—and the generous and compassionate women she met.
For the first time since she was freed from an immigration prison, Rümeysa Öztürk speaks. And she does so by ... writing:
"Writing is the heart of freedom of expression. Unbelievably, this single opinion piece, published in our student newspaper, would lead to my arrest and detention."

On Birthright Citizenship, the Supreme Court Gives Trump a Blunt Tool to Hammer Judges
The president applauded the conservative majority’s 6-3 ruling limiting nationwide injunctions to stop executive orders, a move sure to sow chaos and open the door to unchecked lawlessness. As Justice...
Here’s my takedown of the Supreme Court’s birthright citizenship non-ruling:
Amy Coney Barrett takes balkanized, neo-Confederate approach where you’re only protected in areas where states or individual plaintiffs can sue—and nowhere else.
No way to run a railroad, let alone a nation of laws.

Make no mistake:
In all but nullifying nationwide, “universal” injunctions in these cases, where a uniform rule of law for birthright citizenship is gravely needed, the Supreme Court chose chaos.
Yes, the right still exists. But a lot of needless confusion, fear, and litigation lie ahead.

“Bullish for Tech”: Wall Street’s Most Tireless Optimist Isn’t Rattled by Trump, Musk, or Conflict in Iran
As Trump bombs Iran and Musk melts down, Dan Ives says the future looks bright—for tech stocks, anyway.
In an exclusive interview with VF, Wall Street tech analyst Dan Ives talks Musk’s return to Tesla, the AI boom, and the market impact of the Israel-Iran conflict: “The market has gotten used to chaos and uncertainty.”
