Early Childhood Education Secures Tomorrow Recent research -- "Universal early childhood education and adolescent risky behavior" (Ando, Mori, & Yamaguchi, 2025) -- found that early childhood education in Japan had a significant positive effect on reducing risky behavior in adolescence, like juvenile crime and teenage pregnancy. Thanks to the preschool reform, rates of juvenile violent arrests and teenage pregnancies dropped by 34% and 17%, respectively, compared to pre-reform averages.
