The mystical haze of half-sleep
dissipates with each warm sip
and time strides on my side,
diurnal urge for salience
anoints my day and
the cocktail of my poisons
ebbs till the dusk.

I wake up amid vestiges of spite
miasma of anger I harbour and
morning air cracks the cedar open
somber afterthoughts
make me buoyant,
as I drink my guilt
laced with caffeine.

Mystical mornings wake me up
replenished yet marked with
poison dribbling down my chin,
that I took to bed the night before
as secrets sealed within cedar,
hoping nightmares would’ve
kept close to the chest.

We hold on to cravings of unmet past
let the distressed frames -
anguish, hate, revenge, guilt,
shape our chances in love.

We forget we are storytellers, after all
let go of the shadows if we want to
sit with the inner child we never loved,
bloom a perfect home in this broken heart.

Pangs usher through cracks in our psyche
tiny papercuts that widen
the weight on our shoulders
fleeting memories, soaked in purity.

The truth we seek as essential ablution
lives on the other side of the wall
we erect all our lives
believing in a keeper of our wounds.
