I didn't watch the Superbowl, it's not really for me, I'm not that into sports, I had to do some laundry, well not really, my wife did the laundry, I'm sorry I lied for a second there. But I did reorganize my jackets to ones I am more likely to wear. But anyway, I don't care about the Superbowl

But if you're just receiving emails from your domain and want to read or reply with that domain, forwarding should solve it

if you MUST use POP3/IMAP, apparently it's still supported on mobile apps, or move to Thunderbird, etc.

They claim it's for security, I think that's sus, but whatever

A fairly niche heads up

Gmail will no longer fetch messages through POP3/IMAP to outside personalized domains on desktop

I have several, the solution I found was to change the emails to forwarding instead

Should still be able to send via SMTP

Only downside is mismatch of client versus server

I'd be with that except they have a decent electric motor they regularly sell, and apparently that motorcycle

Although... the companies using the battery, aren't they both spinoffs of Donut?

Still the bike was legit selling previously, right?

I wonder what the impact of the Donut solid state batteries will be on this equation

Open question if that tech really delivers, but if it does, then a lot of these plants will start to look like bad ideas, no? Donut has said it will not license the tech

Seems to me if there were people willing to buy the paper as is, they could just as easily start a new entity and hire many of the people laid off

Sure, they wouldn't have the presses to keep the physical paper going, but that might be a feature, not a bug

I'd call it The Washington Psst πŸ˜€

I wonder if any LLM makers will ever get sued the way Tesla has been over their terminology?

I get tired of folks calling it AI

It's like people calling a network 5G - it has no meaning

Except AI has a meaning – artificial intelligence – which LLMs are not

It's also like "Full Self Driving"

You can't reframe a word to sell your product, and if you do, you should pay the consequences

(oh, and by mental stand, I mean that I have not been able to avoid buying products that were made in China, it just isn't possible, or so close to impossible that it is effectively so)

At this point, it seems like US OEMs are setting themselves up for failure internationally vs. Chinese makes, and if China gets any brands into the US on the low end, US OEMs are toast

The only thing I've seen that I think would annoy me is that, again from reviews I've seen, Chinese vehicles appear to have more annoying nannying tech than cars from other places

No doubt Chinese quality has shot up in the last 10 years from reviews I've seen

In the past, I've taken a mental stand on how China operates politically vs. the US, and there are still concerns

But the US advantage in human rights seems to have narrowed a lot in the last decade, hm?

I feel like I'm in an ep of The Good Place

If my item is behind a lock at CVS, I ring the bell, and nobody shows up for 10 min, I will, in fact, order from Amazon (I know), and maybe next time I won't even bother going to CVS

I wonder how much CVS loses to that vs. how much they lose to shrinkage?

It's said that every lie from the Devil has a grain of truth

I imagine it's the same for cults, but in this case, instead of a grain, it's an iceberg

Right part above the water, wrong part under it

The algorithm favors sensationalist false news

This is not new

In the era when the newspaper was all media, the same thing happened

Sensationalism sold papers, and resulted in wars, lynchings, and panics

Only difference? People made those choices directly

Over 12,500 jobs lost according to several sources, and some sources list up to 50,000 lost

Anecdotally, however, I've seen several small businesses use AI instead of hiring gig workers

We can assume some LLM promises will fail, but given how "just good enough" tech already replaced human chat support and phone support, it seems obvious that more folks in support and CS will get the boot

26.01.2026 07:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Since surveys are only as good as how transparent the respondents are, we can only wait and see

I would say this time next year we'll have a significant data point vs. conjecture and know better if LLM tech can actually replace workers
