A Protected Colony in Decline: Why the Guga Hunt Can No Longer Be Defended For decades, the killing of gannet chicks, the β€œGuga hunt”, on Sula Sgeir has been defended as sustainable, harmless, and woven into cultural heritage.

Blackthorn tree with lots of Sloes

Massive amount of Sloes this year, a loaded tree at the end of my driveway. The birds will have a feast!...... EXCEPT this tree has been marked with a red cross and is due to be felled because council have deemed it is dead or dying. Some signs of decay but tree is very much alive. #trees #uktrees

Housing secretary tells Labour MPs to vote down planning bill amendment Amendment restricts protection for animals to allow faster house building

Steve Reed has told Labour MPs to vote down amendment to the new planning bill intended to protect British wildlife and its habitats from destruction.

Not the most sharp of images but this is a view down my microscope of a small drop of water from some collected moss. I'm always amazed by how much life there is that we cannot see with the naked eye! Puts our lives into perspective.. #microscope #ukwildlife #Protozoans

It’s a fact that only half of Briton’s fly in any given year and just 10% of us are taking 50% of all flights.Β We should take VAT off our energy bills and stick it on flying and other things that are aΒ nice to have after you pay the bills.

This is state-sanctioned slaughter. Year after year, licences have allowed thousands of baby gannets to be killed in Scotland’s so-called β€˜Guga Hunt’. Even in 2025, nearly 500 chicks were massacred under licence β€” paid for by taxpayers, justified as β€˜tradition’, and carried out in secret.

Gatwick airport second runway approved by transport secretary There has been strong opposition against the airport wanting to use its northern runway.

Absurd. How little does this Government care about the climate?

Squeezing out 100k more flights a year won’t improve people’s daily lives. Investing in a growing green economy to lower bills, create high-paid jobs and cut deadly air pollution will! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Petition: Stop airport expansion: halt all airport expansion plans across the UK More than 20 airports across the UK have expansion plans, which will result in a combined increase of 60%+ capacity. More flights means more emissions, at a time when we should be doing everything we ...

Just 500 signatures needed on this for a government response.

We already know what it's going to say ("don't worry, we've got it covered with SAF and fairy dust"), but it's still vital to tell our politicians we don't want airport expansion.

Found this feather in a patch of woodland with open fields nearby, Chilterns hills today. Anyone know the which bird it came from? I thought a hawk or Buzzard but cannot find photos that match it. It is 20cm long.
