For the final day of #museum30 I always choose the prompt “why museums?” And every year the challenge shows why - because museums are spaces for connection not only to the past but to the people who work within them!

On my last trip to London I visited Canary Wharf, an area I’d not been to before, which gave me the perfect image for today’s prompt of ‘water’.

For Day 29 of #Museum30 we present the Barkway Wagon Wash!
Part of the village's history as a major coaching town, coaches would drive through the #Water to clean their wheels and name plates before resuming their onward journeys. The parish council are currently fundraising to restore it.

It's the penultimate day of #Museum30 and the prompt is #Water

Worsbrough Reservoir was built in 1804 to supply water to the new Worsbrough spur of the Dearne and Dove canal.

I scheduled the weather specifically to line up with today’s prompt…

The skeleton of Hatch, the Mary Rose's dog. He's missing most of his teeth, but he seems happy. Dogs that spend a lot of time surrounded by people tend to do that.

'Hatch', a terrier/whippet cross, was found outside the carpenter's cabin, and was the ship's ratter. He was also a good boy. Yes, he was.

I spent a week in Cornwall in April exploring the beautiful coastline and mining heritage, discovering the joy of solo walks!

I started my museum career working front of house @themerl.bsky.social whilst studying at university. As a very quiet person it really surprised me just how much I loved getting to talk to visitors everyday and hear about their favourite parts of the collection!

The closest I get to consistently keeping a #diary is my bird book which contains lists of sightings and sketches from various birdwatching trips (mostly it records visits to Skomer)

There’s a real #magic to nature and learning more about the origins of local folklore is something I want to do more in the coming year. This display of traditional herbs is from Brockhampton a couple years ago.

Museums which explore the methods used to make the everyday objects we use in our houses are always fascinating. I loved getting to see the colour tests and plaster moulds used in the ceramic production at Gladstone Pottery when I visited last!

These are just a few of my favourite objects from some museums I’ve visited in the last 12 months - there’s been lots of art, ceramics and of course natural history!

We are already halfway through #museum30 and I’ve loved seeing what everyone’s come up with so far!

Day 15 is Kindness, something I’ve been trying to be more mindful of this year is being kind to myself so this print on the wall beside my desk is a great reminder of that.

I love discovering preserved elements of history just dotted about in everyday life - like this sign giving instructions for heavy loads on the canal bridge!

I love how full the background is in this piece ‘An English Garden’ by Percy R. Craft, it looks like you could just step into the painting!

As an autistic ADHDer I’ve found it incredible just how much of a difference it makes not having to expend extra energy masking or travelling for work every day. Over the last year I’ve been able to actually use my evenings to be creative!

#museum30 day 11 is reflection and I’ve gone simple today with the reflection of a bridge on one of my favourite local canal walks.

The prompt for day 11 of #museum30 is rainbow, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to share these two photos taken one of my stays on @skomerisland.bsky.social Very excitingly, I’ll be spending a week volunteering on the island next summer!
