Mary’s #CommunityVoices story is an important reminder of how support from and for an entire family is necessary in order for a child to thrive. It really does take a village 🙌

The Center was there every step of the way, offering crucial support like legal aid and even counseling through their monthly TransParent support group. Now, Mary pays it forward by supporting other families.

When Mary’s child came out as trans, the family needed a safe place to navigate the transition. They found it at The LGBTQ Center Long Beach, where Casey formed connections with trans youth, and began to blossom in their teen programs ➡️

The number of reported hate crime offenses increased by 8.9% from 2023 to 2024.

The more aware Californians are in reporting hate, the more we can understand how it impacts our communities. That's why, in May, 200+ #StoptheHateCA partners met with 92% of the California State Legislature.

Yolanda’s #CommunityVoices story shows us how crucial it is for students to have access to trusted role models. Yolanda learned that Sasha’s way of connecting is actually through dance 🙌

Antelope Valley Partners for Health’s Community Health Specialist, Yolanda, facilitated a dance workshop at a local middle school. When Sasha began acting out, Yolanda responded with compassion.

Yolanda was taken aback when she heard, “What are you even doing here you lazy b*itch?” from Sasha, a student taking part in the dance workshop. But instead of seeing a problem, Yolanda saw this as a learning opportunity ➡️

Lisa’s #CommunityVoices story reminds us of the importance of having safe spaces for students to visit in times of need 🙌

Helpline Youth Counseling’s Dream Center, a safe haven for students, facilitated crucial discussions around hate and anti-Blackness. The student who created the fake profile came forward after realizing his actions were rooted in his own experiences of being bullied.

Lisa was hurt when she discovered a fake profile of herself filled with hateful, racist captions. Instead of suffering in silence, she decided to speak up ➡️

📣 NEXT WEEK! Stop the Hate LA joins AAPI Equity Alliance at MacArthur Park in Long Beach on Thursday, 9/11 from 4PM - 6PM.

#StoptheHateLA partners like @centerlb are committed to providing the right kind of support system for the LGBTQ+ community. We’re grateful for their partnership in this fight to end hate.

Kane’s #CommunityVoices story reminds us that everyone deserves to be safe while living comfortably in their own skin, regardless of gender identity. That’s not always a guarantee for the LGBTQ+ community, who endure increasing hate crimes year after year.

After facing severe stalking, Kane, a transgender man, had to move to out of state ➡️

Fearing the harassment would follow him, Kane reached out to The LGBTQ Center Long Beach, who helped him legally change his name and gender, and addressed his anxiety to ensure Kane felt at home in a new place.

Hate is not going away anytime soon. With California’s continued leadership, #StoptheHateCA is able to meet communities where they're at, in the languages they need, and with culturally-relevant resources they trust.

She found community in FiGH’s senior programs by meeting people who went through similar experiences of hate.

Chandra's #CommunityVoices story is a powerful reminder that although hate can happen anywhere, community can be found in unexpected places as well. 🙌

On her routine bus ride in Long Beach, Chandra felt threatened when a stranger yelled, “Go back to your country!” ➡️

She immediately got off at the next stop and called Families in Good Health (FiGH), who helped her get home safely and provided mental health and emotional support.
