This, btw, is why I oppose the death penalty. Someone (generally many someones, including judge, jury, guards, etc.) have to knowingly and calmly collaborate to take the life of another person. It harms those ppl—who go on to interact with the rest of society & the violence spirals out from there.

I guess ancient authors didn't get the memo concerning modern historiological practices.

Always funny to me when multiple authors and a broad sweep of locations and time periods are presented as factors against its reliability.

"Go and learn what this means," Jesus said, "'I desire mercy, not sacrifice'" (Matt 9:13).

There's much to learn here. One lesson: if our understanding of God's commands pushes us to be unmerciful—not showing kindness to the weak, not empowering the disempowered—we've misunderstood God's commands.

So much Christian culture sees the "Great Commission" as being just one of those (proclaiming), with maybe a little bit of another (teaching). If we're to "make disciples" as Jesus made disciples, we should probably not skip bits. (2/2)

I love the summary of Jesus' ministry in Matt 9:35 - teaching (διδάσκων), proclaiming (κηρύσσων), healing (θεραπεύων). Christian ministry is literally didactic, kerygmatic, and therapeutic. (1/2)
