It was the same when printers switched to plastic plates from metal ones for a while to cut costs. After a while in the print run, parts of the plate would start to shrink which resulted in lines that should have been straight being printed as squiggly lines. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

Going back to JB, he was "making friends" with his personality very early on. When Dave Cockrum left the X-Men after his first stint in '77, he stayed on as cover artist for quite a while afterwards. He said he did that because he knew it would annoy Byrne. 😁

Unfortunately true. For me personally what was most disappointing was finding out about Steranko's politics.

Yup, and in Kirby's Destroyer Duck of course. "Cogburn" etc. I still like a lot of his artwork, especially his X-Men work with Terry Austin. The man himself, not so much.

Even before the days of the internet and his message board Byrne was showing what a complete kn*b he was. Especially in the 80s when Kirby was trying to get his original art pages back from Marvel without signing a really restrictive disclaimer. His behaviour on his board just confirmed it later on.
