Very cool AI tool can predict individual risks for over 1000 diseases, based on healthcare data. An interesting proof of concept for what AI in healthcare could look like.
The work was done at @ebi.embl.org and @dkfz.bsky.social. Check out this great write-up by @vickyhatch.bsky.social!

This type of data infrastructure is key for precision medicine.
Can a concept from aerospace engineering βοΈ help rare disease research?
Scientists are working to build βdigital twinsβ of patient tissues to understand the mechanisms of disease & explore treatments.
The project is looking for partners & specialists.

EMBL-EBI is part of the Solve-RD consortium, a project for rare disease data collection and harmonisation
Scientists identified a novel mechanism driving osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer in children, to help predict patient outcomes.
Visual metaphor showing the transport of vitamin B1 in the body. Structural biologists revealed how mutations in a key protein cause vitamin B1 deficiencies in the brain, leading to rare neurological diseases.
(1/2) On Rare Disease Day, weβre highlighting EMBL's molecular biology research & services in this area.

Always impressed with the vision and drive of @embl.org's PhD students!
Really enjoyed speaking to Francesco about his work and what he thinks are the barriers and opportunities for protein design.
Bet you didn't know that #metabolomics can be used to verify the provenance of Cabernet Sauvignon!
