the real hero here is the defense attorney who is in court thinking of all the same sandwich puns we are and can’t giggle, can’t smile, can’t even make a rye remark

I agree with the thread & with Courtney & also want to add one thing:

When we talk about progressive & conservative areas, we're usually looking at election results, BUT: We don't actually know that we're a a half/half nation - we know only that we're a gerrymandered & voter suppressed nation.

I agree with this thread, but I also need to add one thing:

The idea that progressives can't win in conservative areas? We need to challenge that, and after this election, we can.

if you see anyone expressing shock that a candidate who exudes warmth and authenticity and wants to improve the quality of life for working class people won over a rapist whose entire campaign was
"that guys a terrorist" that's not a smart person. you don't have to listen to that person anymore.

If we learn nothing else tonight, please PLEASE let's learn that the American people were NOT won over by an absolute firehose of the most vile dehumanization of trans people. Please @democrats.org, for the love of God and all that's holy, let's FINALLY start refusing to throw ANYone under ANY bus.

This seems huge, and deserves more attention.

SCOTUS has gone out of its way to make it harder to sue Fed law enforcement for damages when they trampleβ€”sometimes literallyβ€”on your rights.

Illinois just made it so their resident can sue the Feds in state court.

Feds fail us, states step up.

At this point, anyoneβ€”a university, a law firm, a corporation, a Democratβ€”bending the knee to Trump is doing it because they want to, not because of any political reality.

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps.

McDonald's CEO raked in $18.2M last year β€” over 1,000x the company's median employee pay.

Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M β€” 930x the company's median employee pay.

See the problem?

Mamdani going so hard for trans right and winning is some juicy proof that every dem that abandoned us didn’t do it for politically advantageous reasons. They did it because they’re transphobes and they will lose for it

"Centrists" need to call Mamdani a "radical leftist" so they can say Trump/Farage fascism is just the opposing side of an equally matched "both sides" conflict

But Mamdani is just a middle of the road, European social democrat

And "centrists" - ie centre-right and right - are simply pro-fascism.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

whatever you think of Spanberger, the fact that her opponent ran a campaign based almost entirely on transphobia and is on track to eat shit in the biggest blowout the state has seen since 2009 is unambiguously a huge win

I just got back from a walk. While I was walking through the park, a little white boy and his father flagged me down from the very other end of the park. Now to be fair, I have on my hat on, so I’m easy to spot lol. The little boy drew me this. A month ago. He has been waiting to see me again.

I think I was in my thirties before it began dawning on me that all of my values and beliefs that I had always thought of as punk rock radical were utterly boring and wholesome and commonsensical and that the people I had grown up thinking of as β€œnormies” were really pervy weirdos

Earlier this year, I met a Croatian journalist who was in the US doing a piece on America’s politics and I asked her what surprised her. And she said, β€œWhat you all call the far left is just being normal.”

I gotta give it up to the writers tho. If NYC elects a Muslim mayor on the day Dick Cheney died, that is one hell of a slow played story arc. Every time you want to fire 2025's writers room they give you a little narrative resolution as a treat.

If the reasoning is β€œhave people who take positions that electorates like, pick candidates that speak to them and can also be personable instead of seeming like you’re in a lab”? This is good!

If it’s β€œyou should have the same positions as Mamdani?” This is bad!

04.11.2025 16:13 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 1

It's really interesting to be afraid of trying a Mamdani-style campaign across the country (i.e., pick some things people want to change and campaign on delivering that), which would be a first. . .

instead of being afraid of continuing the centrist Dem losing streak. . .
