A couple things with this:

Bluesky isn't "independent." It, too, is owned by rich people, and there's been some troubling moderation going on recently.

Pixelfed was created/is being run by a pretty toxic developer who cares more about clout than anything else.

Your mental health matters and for those who generally feel some kind of way about damn near everything this is probably taking a harder hit on you than most. Especially for those whose nature tend to unintentionally absorb others’ pain and traumas like a sponge.

Trump‘s first term taught me that while we do need to know what’s going on there is also no need for us to always be so connected.

Doing so will gaslight you into feeling that you’ve gone insane in slow motion. That’s basically what fascism wants anyway so why take any road to that?

For ppl that are genuinely empathetic or sensitive to others’ energies please take some time for yourself that *doesn’t* involve browsing social media. Especially engagement sites like this one. Nothing is normal and doom scrolling is a very real and unhealthy thing.

Find or make other outlets.
