What's the source of hope?

I think there's a parallel to how a nation that achieved success and international leadership through public investment (in science, art, infrastructure, clean air and water, education, public lands, public welfare, ...) decided over the past half century that public investment is a waste of money.

I don't think I'll convince you, but urging people to cower now is really harmful. Protests at this stage are meant to show people that their friends and neighbors are involved, are meant to make people feel supported & inspired, and inclusive to a broad range of people. Fear does the opposite.
