The morning TGV from Paris to Barcelona (07:41-14:29; 6h48) with a 18 minute stop in Montpellier-Sud de France
The evening TGV from Paris to Barcelona (14:41-21:29; 6h48) with a 6 minute stop in Montpellier-St Roch
Up to now, I've avoided Sud de France due to its difficult connection, aided by the fact that only the morning TGV's to/from Barcelona stop there.
The contournement of Nîmes and Montpellier makes no difference to the scheduled journey time from Paris to Barcelona because of an 18 min stop in SdF

The twice-daily Jacobite charter train between Fort William and Mallaig, this journey pulled by a diesel engine, crosses the Glenfinnan viaduct

A deer spotted in the proximity of Glenfinnan, not very far away from the crowds of Harry Potter fans that come look at the viaduct
We also went to Glenfinnan, where many had found the walk towards the viaduct - famous because of Harry Potter

We walked a section around Ullswater, including a climb up to Hallin Fell
The UK is fabulously walk-friendly, with many publicly accessible paths and hikes. Those around the Lake District are also surprisingly well connected by public transport

Lunch served in 1st class on board of Avanti West Coast
Breakfast served on Avanti West Coast: scrambled eggs & smoked salmon was one of the options
Lunch on board an LNER with the Dine menu: oven-baked salmon.
We really enjoyed the complimentary food (& drinks!) first class on some UK trains; especially Avanti and LNER

In the same category: A stay in Alp Grüm (2.091 m above sea level), located on the Bernina railway, is even more spectacular and is actually considerably cheaper. However, Corrour is nonetheless a worthy competitor.

The line looking towards the Corrour summit at 411 metres. While Corrour is the highest station, it's not the highest point on the UK mainline as that is Drumochter summit at 452 m. on the Highland Main Line towards Inverness.
At the other end of the platform, with the old signal box now housing a lounge for the hotel guests
It's the UK's highest altitude mainline railway station, at 408 metres above sea level. While that might not sound impressive, the highest altitude Dutch mainline station is Kerkrade Centrum at just 149 metres.

Andorra's bus network map
Line 3 and line 4 each have a 20-minute frequency, complementing each other on most of the route
Within Andorra, there is a frequent bus network: we took the L4 line to the Western end of the country in Pas de la Casa.
The bus takes about an hour and runs every 20 minutes.
Tickets cost €4.80 ans can be bought on board (only cash) or at the bus station. Local residents travel with a free pass.
The Andbus stops in front of Lleida's main train station, Lleida-Pirineus, which is served by some AVE trains on the Madrid-Barcelona high speed line.
It's a small minibus
From Lleida, frequent buses run to Andorra la Vella, taking about 2h15 and costing €25. This route is served both by Hife (a few buses a day) and by Andbus (departures every two hours)

The old town of Pamplona, mostly known for their bull-running festivities in July, San Fermín. They don't run through this street though.

Visited Pamplona and Lleida, checking off two provinces where I hadn't been before. I've now been to 47 out of the 52 provinces & autonomous cities.
Still much more to see in many Spanish provinces though

The bus from Andorra to the French train station of Andorre-l'Hospitalet runs twice a day. A ticket from Pas de la Casa, located close to the French border at the Western end of the Grandvalira ski resort, costs €10.

The interior of our second class couchette compartment, with 6 bunks. We paid €150 for this journey in an «Espace privatif», having the entire compartment for ourselves. Sleeping bags, cushions, water bottles and a small amenity kit are included.
After quickly crossing Paris by metro line, we catch the 08:18 Ouigo from Paris-Nord to Brussels. This train cost us just €10 per person, booked well ahead.

In these trains the rows have 5 seats: three on one side of the corridor and two on the other.
Each seat has a small personal screen opposite that offers some entertainment options, a map and journey information. While the seats can be turned around to face travel direction, Renfe doesn't on these services.
For science, we're travelling in second class. These trains have 3-2 seating here, and 2-2 in 1st.
I paid €28 per person, including seat selection (€5), as I wanted to avoid a middle seat
My previous attempt failed, as I had booked a journey on January 1st and a bug stranded all these trains

I'm trying the Renfe S-106 to Asturias. This AVE goes all the way from Castelló to Gijón, passing through Valencia and Madrid, but I'm only taking it between Madrid and Oviedo
