Bucks Council merged into a unitary a few years ago. The grandfathered councillors sat in the new authority until new elections were held.

It’s not an option. It was a consultation. Yeah they should have just gone ahead.

Because it’s Labour’s decision not the councils’ decisions. They should just press on with the elections. The councils have no power to delay.

This is the second delay in many areas including mine. Whilst I have respect for many councillors the world will not end if they have to stand again.

Not quite right though. The question posed to councils was “Will carrying out elections negatively affect operation of the council?” Very broad question which some local leaders have used to delay elections they know they will lose. Some might have valid concerns though.

Not strictly true. The councils have been asked whether holding the election might negatively affect their operations. Slightly different question.

Also allows all councils to throw it back at the government which displays political naivety from Labour.

I don’t think he “speaks like the common man” I think he speaks well and clearly. We might not know his policies for the country if he can’t even stand… his policies are likely to be similar. This all just makes Starmer look weak.

Burnham is no Johnson. You need the policies and the ability to set out and communicate a coherent agenda. Starmer isn’t doing well at this.

I don’t know his policies but I think he’d be more likely to enact Starmer’s policies more efficiently. He’s a better communicator than Starmer too.
