Why did I choose so much pain by going with 2d isometric 🙈

Just discovered MSAA and sample alpha to coverage.

To think i spent months trying to Z Sort my shader instanced geometry with my non instanced geometries - an impossible problem.

Color grading 2d assets to make them fit into the environment is pretty difficult I've found out the hard way.

Lighting direction, luminance can make the assets not blend together. Also no shadows to help blend the transition between different objects 🥶.

2d isometric is a pain I choose 😄.

Harmonized the art styles of some assets and colour graded them to fit the world.

Trying out different sizing, wanted some enormous assets like the tree to show some grandeur, but it looks nicer on my super wide screen monitor.

The ring was inspired by Stargate. And the monument from the Singapore war memorial.

The tree for different factions was inspired by the raintrees in my country and the babao tree.

I tried to choose trees which represent the different factions.

I used a very simple shader, but it doesn't look very "map" like 😂

Biome changes when reach near the beach. I need to tone down the rocks.

O whats ppm? I was using rgb one for elevation and one channel to encode biome tile types.

My above ground map uses GIS maps. But I am generating dungeons using BSP (my algo is quite bad) but didn't really look like dungeons haha.

But the nice thing about bsp is I get metadata (rooms, corridor)

I kinda hacked a custom procedural gen tool which outputs png files.

But I haven't spent much time on it as I had to move on to other features.

I didn't intentionally design this, somehow by shear luck the procedural generation created this landscape with "feng shui" elements.

Learn to code using free tier of ai only. It makes you a better dev.

It forces you to actually think about what to use AI for and what not to (to keep within your daily limits)

It ensures that you are coding 70% of the time and not brain dead.

Hmm I actually started designing my game to work across platforms initially, mobile/desktop.

But eventually I ditch mobile because fitting the ui to fit mobile makes it a totally different game.

Also the amount of work was insane.

Maybe focus on full desktop is better.
