Landscape from the edge of a lake. On the fair side, an orange-pink dawn is peeking through clouds. The lake is placid and has a handful of ducks gliding about its surface.
A pair of 12 milers this weekend. An early start yesterday gave me ducks at dawn. On to a pair of 15s next weekendβ¦

Recorded my first ever DNF today. Tough weather conditions and an even tougher course. Definitely the right decision (not mine!) to pull out, but as I look back on it this evening Iβm beginning to beat myself up about itβ¦ all part of runningβs ups and downs I suppose. #running

I misspokeβ¦ not so much blocking, more muting the hashtags they used. But yes β itβs a fairly relentless torrent.

Interestingβ¦ I used to get non-stop Liverpool but my blocking eventually stemmed the tide. Now itβs all Everton and Newcastle Β―\_(γ)_/Β―

Sunlit bridge over the Selby canal, North Yorkshire
Trail with a view of St Wilfridβs church, Brayton in the middle distance. On the left of the trail, an overgrown hedge. On the right, tall corn in a field.

A view of the Selby canal, North Yorkshire, from the middle of a small stone bridge over the canal.
From yesterday: just shy of 19 miles on trails around Brayton (near Selby, just south of York. Legs were shattered, trails far more gruelling than roadβ¦ but nothing a roast dinner and apple pie couldnβt put right. #running #trailrunning

Iβm envious! Being in the UK itβs a bit of a journey to run the MCM but I did it in 2019 and loved it - even though I had a bad run in dreadful conditions. Youβll love it. Good luck with the rest of your training!

My trail run stats from todayβs 18 miler, overlaying a photo of the Knaresborough viaduct.

18 miles through the trails around Knaresborough today. Lovely setting; hillier than ideal for me so mixed in plenty of walking. Still two+ months till my first 40 miler so plenty of time to improve.

Running route and stats for a run around York race course. I was not as fast as the horses.
Today I went for a run with a friend Iβve had for 39 years. Crazy to think about that longevity but Iβm very proud of it. Anywayβ¦ a little loosened prior to doing 18 miles on Sunday #running #runsky

Map and stats from my run today. 15.54 miles over 2:36:41. Not especially exciting⦠for anyone but me!
Long and slow today β fields and trails outside York. Not my finest work but the 1,800 calories burned will give me permission to eat everything in sight! About 35 miles for the week 4. 12 to go til the Warrington Wayβ¦ 40 miles still feels a long, long way off.

View over a sun-dappled Kentish vineyard, with wheat fields in the distance. Above, a bright blue sky parched either fluffy clouds.
Unimpressive performance data from a trail.
Short trail run yesterday - despite it being less than 5 miles from where I grew up and have now visited for many years, I had no idea it was there. Very peaceful - and wouldnβt you know it, thereβs a vineyard too.
Kept the pace low and walked the steeper inclines π³

I always enjoy reading the TripAdvisor London Forum because I'm fascinated to see what foreign tourists expect, what they ask about and what surprises them. I thought this post from someone from Texas was a really lovely and cheering comment about riding the tube late at night
