4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities

demolishing higher education is economic sabotage

I'm in a place with this dumb nerve pain that means wearing pants kinda sucks because it rubs against my skin which apparently hates being even moderately touched.

Related: school starts again soon and pretty much requires wearing things on your bottom half.

Look how low down the list the two Democratic senators from Georgia, a state Trump won in 2016 and 2024 are. Tremendous respect for them both.

Having just watched Andor/Rogue One in preparation for Star Wars: a New Hope at the Fox Theater tonight I propose the following: let's all agree Episodes I-III didn't happen, and that our prequel to New Hope is the story of the Rebellion, not of Vader.

This class is mostly an excuse to teach Ice because it is so weird and seems underappreciated. Same with Lathe of Heaven. Great cli-fi.

If I may whine for a second, I'm recovering from surgery and have to sleep on my back. This is causing pressure on my lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, (meralgia paresthetica) and is driving me bonkers as my quad is numb, tingly, random shooting pains, and a general sense of a big bruise. Hates it.

23.07.2025 02:31 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm thinking Kavan's Ice, Atwood's Oryx and Crake, LeGuin's Lathe of Heaven, and Butler's Parable of the Sower. Maybe Frankenstein, but it's long. This list also skews too white, so I'm happily taking suggestions for medium length novels or short stories.

So, a possibility may have come my way to teach a lit class (gasp!) and I'm thinking of doing a women's lit course focused on Science, Ethics, and Obsession. What would y'all include here?
