If you're a Palestinian with something to say about it, please contact me as well. We need to get our voices out, and I'll do my best to help you get published.

11.08.2025 07:23 β π 21 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0Obviously, no mainstream outlet is going to let Palestinians have a voice about our own recognition, and many "progressive" publications are not much better. We should be hearing from Palestinians right now. If you're in a position to commission something, please contact me.
11.08.2025 07:23 β π 86 π 48 π¬ 1 π 0There is no doubt that Labor leadership will try to claim that this is the end of the road and there is no more they can do for Palestine. We need to continue to hold them to account. Call this a win, celebrate, but we need to fight for widespread sanctions and an arms embargo.
11.08.2025 07:22 β π 24 π 7 π¬ 1 π 1This is a much younger me, at the 2015 ALP National Conference, soon after I founded Labor Friends of Palestine. The credit goes to rank-and-file party activists, and to you, everyone who has joined the protests and raised your voice for justice. It's taken Labor more than a decade.
11.08.2025 07:21 β π 70 π 14 π¬ 3 π 0I wrote this before October 7. At the time, the idea that diplomatic recognition of Palestinian statehood would improve anything on the ground was laughable. Now, in the face of genocide, itβs dangerously negligent. We need sanctions and an arms embargo now, not recognition.
11.08.2025 06:47 β π 43 π 27 π¬ 2 π 0We've got to keep protesting, speaking out + disrupting the genocidal war machine. But we also need to remember to look after each other + especially Palestinian refugees. So please donate (tax-deductible) to PARA Foundation, who do this work in Aus!

Consider: this is positive, feel-good story. It's an example of community work that does something tangible for 'social cohesion'. At the very least, it made children happy. But if the racist, right-wing press got onto it, they would have tried to destroy it. Too bad for them. π
10.08.2025 09:49 β π 20 π 3 π¬ 2 π 0I couldn't be there in person because I'm away for a conference, but the event was in the good hands of my phenomenal co-organisers, and all the messages and photos I received were so joyous. These kids all escaped the terrors of Gaza, but they looked so happy at the event. π₯Ίβ€οΈβπ©Ή
10.08.2025 09:49 β π 18 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I kept this one really quiet, because Zionists will gleefully harass and intimidate children, but a few months ago I won an Inspiring Australia grant to organise a science family fun day event for refugee kids from Gaza as part of National Science Week. π₯Ίππ§ͺ
10.08.2025 09:49 β π 83 π 18 π¬ 3 π 0Coming to you from the Defend Our Juries action in London π΅πΈ Just a little amendment: there were still like 500 people committed to holding these signs for as long as they canβt, almost 2 hours past the start of the action. Police picking them off one by one.

I am at Parliament Square in London, where I am watching peaceful protesters arrested for holding signs. History will remember all of these brave people as heroes.
09.08.2025 15:12 β π 1212 π 457 π¬ 48 π 21Looking at the way the world is turning, how can Albanese and Wong not be embarrassed by their own nonsense? Yet to this day they insist that there is nothing wrong in our exports of βnon-lethalβ F35 parts.
08.08.2025 11:34 β π 231 π 74 π¬ 7 π 3Stand with Anthony D'Adam. If you're in Labor, close ranks and defend him. The branches that Labor Friends of Palestine is organising should pass solidarity motions with him. Anthony has stuck his neck out more than once for Palestine, and his colleagues seem to want his expulsion.
08.08.2025 08:42 β π 28 π 13 π¬ 1 π 0We all know what Birenbaum and the Telegraph did. They can take issue with particular characterisations of the incident but we know what they did. The fact that they are pursuing defamation proceedings against Cairo now is to distract from the impending final solution in Gaza.
08.08.2025 08:08 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Israelβs war in Gaza combines a staggeringly high death rate, shocking violence toward children, unparalleled physical destruction, and now a world-historical famine.
The world has, by objective measure, never seen anything like this.
The moment I saw that "trans bra" M & S story I sensed it was nonsense.
Seconds later, having read the Telegraph piece I knew it was worse than that. It was deliberate hate mongering completely devoid of evidence, names and facts.
Superb job of debunking it here

AI isn't a threat to historians because it can do our job (it can't) its danger comes from the harm it does to our institutions' primary way of making money: the certification of degrees.
This is not in the abstract - "the value of a degree goes down" - it is first in the cost of invigilation.
Thereβs enough pro-Palestine people in the Right faction to cause a headache for Minns, so the Left needs to start disendorsing and pulling numbers away from any of their caucus members that enable Minnsβ enthusiasm for baby-killing and child starvation.

if you're new here, you are welcome. and don't let someone who only learned about Palestine in 2023 tell you otherwise. sure, some people have been fighting for 20 months. ... and some have been fighting for 76 years. you can be new, but you need to respect that others have been here longer - much longer. Behave with respect, acknowledging that you're new to the community. Don't pretend you've been here all along. And reflect, deeply, on what took you so long.
A Palestinian friend posted this today, which lays out our expectations pretty well.
05.08.2025 09:33 β π 43 π 9 π¬ 2 π 0This is obviously about Gaza despite the claim to the contrary. None of us are sneering. Weβve encouraged and welcomed people into the movement. What we havenβt tolerated is anyone whoβs whinged about not getting a parade for clocking in several months into a genocide.

How easily the press ignored Palestinians, including myself, who made this exact point for years. Israel didnβt kill the two-state solution alone; journalists helped them along by providing cover.
