At a public high school in rural MI, I had a history teacher touch me with a Bible and make a hissing noise like it was burning my skin. I also had a government teacher that said to remember the difference between democrats and republicans, remember that Democrat and devil both start with D.

Political violence and threats are not the answer.

This is a watershed moment — we can choose to stay silent and live in fear, or we can choose to be loud for peace and compassion.

We must work together to stop this crisis, and it should start from the top with the President.

I’m very sorry that happened to you. To be clear, I am not a trained mental health professional, but I didn’t bring it up when I called my brother. I just asked him how he was doing, and he let it out on his own. If he didn’t want to talk, I would never have forced it.

On Wednesday, I saw someone say to check in on the young people in your life and I immediately called my younger brother. He had seen the video and was pretty distraught over it, and really happy to talk to someone. So to anyone seeing this - check in on the young people in your life.
