Morning, Womble! Am in between books at the moment, but I just finished reading Frankenstein: The Original 1818 text by Mary Shelley for the 1st time, and I loved it!

Loved the illustrations, but I found the writing here to be completely lifeless. Just a painful reading experience. The pretty pictures are the only reasons I finished it. Huge disappointment.
3 stars for the illustrations.
1 star for the writing.

Never been much of a classics guy, but it’s surprising to me, especially given my proclivity for horror and my love of the Frankenstein films, that I hadn’t yet read Mary Shelley’s magnum opus. Well, I loved it! Started slow, but gripped me from the moment the creature took the stage.

This book gets five stars for making me feel so dirty and disgusted, and for the absolute insanity that @paperbacksandpugs.bsky.social always brings to his work. Turning that last page, mouth agape, I kept thinking to myself- what the fuck did I just read, and why, oh why, did I love it so much! 🙂
