Man, this could have gone so many more interesting directions after "New York City."

I told him (politely--I was a guest!) I didn't think a few multi-units on Canada Rd. would doom him and his family. Never invited back. But it was a very good dinner tbh.

Back in 2022 or 23 I went to a very nice dinner party at the house of a wealthy guy in Woodside who was 100% convinced that SB-9 would lead to his family burning to death because "those people" would block his evacuation route when the inevitable wildfire came.

Sepp Blatter suggests fans should not travel to US for World Cup The ex-Fifa boss showed his support of a Swiss lawyer who called for a boycott of the tournament due to security concerns in the US

One way to read this is as Sepp Blatter shiving Gianni Infantino.

I should add that as a crisis and corporate reputation person, I have worked with many lawyers over the years, both in-house and outside counsel, and they've been great!!! But the point stands.

Also, something I learned while writing this is that there is a "Meat Industry Hall of Fame" and this year's induction ceremony is TOMORROW! (Alas, in Georgia, so I can't crash it.) www.provisioneronline.com/meat-industr...

I have never had a McRib and have no stake in the outcome of this litigation. But I do think the complaint kind of maligns the culinary value of miscellaneous pig organs.

The People v. McRib The press bites on a sandwich lawsuit

As a longtime PR person, I have a theory that many lawyers are just fancy PR people. Nothing proves this more than an entertaining, written-for-press class-action lawsuit. williammoss.substack.com/p/the-people...

I've never had a McRib, but I have a lot of time for processed and restructured meat products in general, tbh. Sausage? Pate? Terrines? Liverwurst? Plain ol' hot dogs? Hit me!

A block of text:

More relevantly, the quote above states that "tripe, heart, and scalded stomachs" are commonly used in processed meats. It also notes that the McRib is "composed of unmarketable parts of the animal." It does not specifically state that tripe, heart, and scalded stomachs are in the McRib. They might be, but we don't know that from the citation in the lawsuit. But the implication was enough for the plaintiff's lawyers to run with.

I don't know if that will matter legally, but it was great PR, because the press couldn't resist the ick! factor. The media all used some form of "the lawsuit alleges" in their articles because they have their own lawyers looking over their copy. It's lawyers all the way down.

Text reading: The "he" in the first sentence above-the source of the list of organ meatsβ€”is a Mr. Roger Mandigo, who is described by Chicago Magazine as, "a longtime prof at [the University of Nebraska, Lincoln| a recent inductee into the Meat Industry Hall of Fame and an innovator in restructured meat products."

I did not know there was a Meat Industry Hall of Fame. Now I do, and so do you! If you're interested, this year's induction ceremony is on January 26th, at the Georgia World Congress Center, and there is (barely) still time to RSVP. Please go, and send me

I wrote about how last month's class-action lawsuit over the marketing of McDonald's "McRib" sandwich was a clever bit of gross-out PR rooted in American ideas of which bits of an animal are "premium" and which are trash. williammoss.substack.com/p/the-people...

Accidentally learned two things today:

1) Searching "otter" on bsky dot app does not return photos of the famously adorable riparian mustelid.

2) The urban dictionary definition of the word "otter."

That’s a good point. At-sea rubbish disposal is pretty common. There are probably better enforcement mechanisms than the stencil, though. I get ”no smoking” because the stakes are higher. I learned technical diving on the wreck of an oil tanker that exploded (though it was from lightning).

Not the most important thing here, but when did they start stenciling β€œPROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT” on oil tankers? And who is that for?
