βThis is a bad decision from the RBA. There was plenty of evidence against raising rates, but they pushed ahead anyway. Letβs hope the economy continues to be resilient,β writes Matt Grudnoff, Senior Economist at The Australia Institute.

Beware the new 'normal', it might be about to bite us
Some people just like power. Those same people enjoy sowing seeds of discord that they never have to actually solve, in order to keep it.
"An openly racist reality TV star with a disdain for rules, and rights, someone with more wealth than 99 per cent of people could imagine, play-acting as an anti-elite.
Who would take that seriously?
Australia. More than once." @amyremeikis.bsky.social

Biggest driver of inflation December:
International holidays: 0.68%pts
Domestic holidays: 0.26%pts

Inflation in December had a bit of a jump, and all of it was due to holiday travel - mostly international. My column

The regime's mind-bending lies are a tactic
Thinking about them in terms of truth or falsity is a category error.
"The regimeβs mind-blowing lies are ultimately a way to demean and mark those who resist. They function as fascist solidarity, signaling that partisans can and should do anything and everything to political enemies, no matter how violent, cruel, or unnecessary."

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti
Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti
βWe are heartbroken but also very angry.
Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.
I do not throw around the βheroβ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trumpβs murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.
Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

Mourning Bondi. Australia's hierarchy of grief - Michael West
Australia suffers from selective empathy. And nowhere is that clearer than in the way our political and media class decide who can mourn.

Why the public are the real losers from the hate legislation fracas
These are the biggest losers, and winners, in the political brinkmanship Anthony Albanese and Labor lured Sussan Ley and the Liberals into.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes (written ahead of the party room meeting yesterday where the eight remaining Nationals quit the coalition cabinet. Ley is not yet accepting their resignations)
