xkcd is, more than anything, capable of doing so much with so little. i love when it's funny but the real sincere strips really do it for me. the cancer ones are a kick in the gut. nearly 15 years later "lanes" still makes me tear up when i think of it. this one is beautiful.

One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

like so many of these things have a one sentence explanation including "my doctor was wrong" and yet that does not suffice

i just am being punished for every doctor's visit or time that i ever went to seek medical help even when it turned out to not be a real problem, and also for errors in my medical records, by having to out-of-pocket a 5-digit number's worth of medical tests to get cleared to fly and it's staggering

what's "outside a residential area?" some of these fucking things are so loud i can hear them a mile away. i hear motorcycles with loud exhausts on 95 sometimes which is very far from my house.

i do actually get the impression that some of these folks are actually deliberately circling for the express purpose of bothering people which is even more nuts. i swear i hear this one car like four times a day every day minimum. i've been hearing it roaring for the past 20 minutes or so.

like it's literally just insane fucking noise that benefits nobody except the guy driving the car and even that person probably isn't always in the mood to hear it

has to feel so good when you've been working really hard on your kung fu and another kung fu guy says your kung fu is like, so strong. but a lot of the time he's got a follow up about how your kung fu is actually bad and sucks compared to his own kung fu. so it's important you don't react right away

if you think about it for like ten seconds it's really fucked that we've normalized a culture of "you bought something from me once so you consent to never ever be left alone forever"

his videos are very weird. he is obviously a very accomplished musician but his path in has felt very synthetic. he was just everywhere one day!
