There are so very few opportunities in this modern life to say this, so I just want to record for posterity:

My copper merchant has delivered very high quality copper, in the amounts requested.

Break the cycle.

Even on the left in discussion of the imminent AI bubble burst, I don't see much on the immediate stakes for normal people; jobs, housing, mortgages etc. beyond the exposure of pensions, index funds etc. Mostly preoccupied with the downfall of hated companies and technologies. What am I not reading?

BREAKING 🚨: Equinor has admitted the Rosebank oil field would result in 249 million tonnes of CO2.

That's more than the combined annual emissions of Ireland, Belgium and Greece.

But Equinor says that's not their problem. They profit, everyone else pays the price.

Wikipedia Says AI Is Causing a Dangerous Decline in Human Visitors β€œWith fewer visits to Wikipedia, fewer volunteers may grow and enrich the content, and fewer individual donors may support this work.”

So for-profit AI companies have trained on the world's largest collaborative volunteer project and a precious free resource, to make money for their for-profit enterprises. They have crushed traffic to the volunteer project, starving it of donors and volunteers

Conservatives Take Aim at β€˜One Battle After Another’: β€œYear’s Most Irresponsible Movie” While Paul Thomas Anderson's film is being heralded as a masterpiece by many, some conservatives accuse it of potentially inspiring left-wing violence.

I am so sick of living in a world where certain groups insist art & culture be re-oriented to serve their tastes and whims when their own pitiful inability or unwillingness to critically engage with and contemplate creativity clearly demonstrate that art & culture are too good for them.

The blurbs for my book are in. It's out March 26th 2026. Since I don't have a publicist let me know if you have any interest in reviewing it. Also more than happy to talk about it in a class, seminar series, or podcast.

Civilization itself cannot be cleared of the responsibility of having engendered its opposite: barbarism. History achieved the domestication of man only by continuous suffering.23 In the childhood of humanity all activity was directly conditioned by immediate need, under menace of danger. Vital instincts comparatively unfettered by social organization guided the first men. The path from that era until people first became used to organized labor was a painful one, and the necessity to provide for hard times was often impressed upon their minds. Ruthless conquerors who had come to rule the aborigines, tyrants and castes of military oppressors, β€”in one word, domination, did the job. The profound story of Paradise and the expulsion from it in the first chapters of Genesis may combine a theological truth with a historical memory which toiling and oppressed people harbored of happier days free from the burden of organized and regular work. Only during the last one or two thousand years has man learned to do his work without the pressure of the ruthless taskmaster by transforming the outside coercion into the power of conscience in his own soul, by translating the immediate need into concepts which comprise the future as well as the past and the present.

What I am referring to is the process which leads from a stage in which compulsion of the masses by the very few was a social necessity to a level where force finds its expression in the law, where people have become capable of molding their own relations by respecting their mutual interests and of making work a tolerable and even desirable expression of life. If we try to understand the psychology of the present-day human being, we have to remember that this whole transmutation is a recent one. It has left its imprint not only on the institutions of modern society but also on the character of its individuals. They still bear the marks of the terrible punishments, the humiliations and tortures which humanity had to undergo until it learned to respect law, the neighbor’s property and life, the woman’s or the stranger’s weakness. These marks are shown in the ambiguity with respect to such values, in the readiness of the individual to tear down the boundaries of civilized life not only because of a strong materialistic urge but also for the sake of the violation itself.

This is very insightful from Max Horkheimer. I can really feel what he means here, not only understand it. This text taken from @jamescrane.bsky.social's blog here:

Just the worst people imaginable: hurling the most insane, deliberately inflammatory drivel they can and then, at the slightest sign of pushback, hurling themselves squealing to the pitch clutching their shins, rolling around pretending to be injured, shouting for a red card.

That show is so good *because* its writers clearly read a ton of revolutionary literature - novels, history books, theory - and used it for their narrative. "Read revolutionary leftist lit" is cringe, but we have literally two centuries of very popular novels and films conveying these messages.
