Campaign to stop all new oil & gas extraction π’ #StopRosebank #StopCambo Get involved: http://stopcambo.org.uk

07.10.2025 13:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Much of this progress came from the Global South.
China added more solar and wind capacity than the rest of the world combined.
India and several African nations also saw record solar growth that helped reduce coal and gas use.
GOOD NEWS π: For the first time in history, renewables have overtaken coal as the worldβs biggest source of electricity.
Solar and wind met 100% of new global electricity demand in the first half of 2025 and even helped cut coal and gas use.
While the Tory party's energy & climate policy grows increasingly detached from reality, worth reflecting on a remarkable, under-reported event at Labour conference: the launch of Climate Jobs UK, a campaign by GMB, Prospect & other TUs focused on the creation of good jobs in the energy transition

02.10.2025 18:53 β π 49 π 11 π¬ 0 π 0This isnβt leadership. Itβs reckless. Scrapping the Climate Change Act wonβt cut bills. It wonβt grow the economy. It will only make the crisis worse and lock us into a dead-end future.
02.10.2025 10:53 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0So who wins here? Not families. Not workers. Just oil firms, Farageβs anti-science grift, and Trump-style climate denial. All while clean energy jobs, investment, and real security are left behind.
02.10.2025 10:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Letβs be clear. Fossil fuel dependence cost the UK Β£140bn after Putin invaded Ukraine. The Tories spent Β£40bn of public money just to stop bills exploding. Clean energy could have protected us. Badenoch wants to kill it.
02.10.2025 10:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The North Sea is now like a piΓ±ata at the end of a kidsβ party. You can hit it all you want, but nothingβs coming out.
New drilling wonβt lower bills. Wonβt boost supply. Just more profits for oil companies while the rest of us pay the price.
After 60 years of drilling, the North Sea canβt give us cheap energy. The gas is mostly gone. Oil gets sold overseas. Prices stay high.
This isnβt a plan. This is vapid, political game playing at the expense of bill payers and the UKβs energy workers
BREAKING π¨: Kemi Badenoch says sheβll repeal the UKβs Climate Change Act if the Tories win.
That means scrapping carbon targets, shutting down the climate watchdog, and locking Britain into fossil fuels right as the world heats up and bills soar.
Nick Robinson on Today this AM was completely wrong to suggest that pumping more oil & gas from the North Sea would lower bills, something even former Tory Energy Secretaries have accepted.
Weβve burned most of the gas and export the vast majority of the oilβand oil is basically whatβs leftβ¦
New oil will only worsen extreme weather, and delay the action we urgently need.
Yet the UK government is still considering Rosebank, the countryβs largest undeveloped oil field. Add your voice to stop it: www.stopcambo.org.uk/act
Climate stress in cities brings more than heat. It means flooding, drought, rising energy bills and pressure on healthcare and infrastructure.
The poorest communities are hit first and hardest. Most cities are not prepared.
Extreme heat is already causing illness, lost income and early deaths. The most affected are older adults, outdoor workers and people in poor-quality housing with no cooling or green space.
This is not just uncomfortable. It is dangerous.
London is heating up fast. The number of 30Β°C days has doubled since the 1990s.
Cities like Madrid, Rome and Beijing now have twice as many 35Β°C+ days. Manila has three times as many. Urban heat is not coming. It is already here.
BREAKING π¨: The worldβs biggest cities are now facing 25% more extremely hot days each year compared to the 1990s.
This is not only about rising temperatures. It is about cities becoming increasingly unsafe for millions of people.
As the @globalsumudflotilla approaches Gaza, the risks of attacks and escalation grow. 500 people from 45 countries, including UK citizens, sailing to deliver urgently needed aid. The UK government must step up: protect its citizens, impose an arms embargo, and guarantee the flotilla safe passage.
26.09.2025 09:54 β π 19 π 6 π¬ 0 π 2By taking a clear position against new licensing, the UK government has no choice but to finally make a plan for the future of the North Sea and the UK's energy security - one that workers have long called for.
23.09.2025 14:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This isnβt a choice between more North Sea drilling or imports β that ship has sailed. Itβs between more imports or ramping up renewables.
But as long as the spectre of more drilling hovers, governments will continue to delay.
While we remain distracted by ever diminishing amounts of oil and gas, we are missing huge opportunities.
Opportunities to create good, clean energy jobs in the UK, in domestic wind manufacturing in particular, that will last us long into the future.
The overwhelming message from workers is clear: they want more from the government to help them through the energy transition.
We need a proper plan, not more self-interested lobbying from industry bosses.
Right now the industry isn't working for workers.
According to a new survey, one in four North Sea workers are looking to quit, citing job security, safety concerns and stagnant wages, all while companies and shareholders continue to make huge profits
www.heraldscotland.com/news/2547827...
As production declines, so do jobs. New licensing is not the answer - jobs supported by the industry have more than halved in the past decade despite hundreds of new licenses.
Even the regulator says it would only make a difference around the edges.
This speculation around new licensing is a complete distraction from the conversation we need to have.
The North Sea is in decline, which is just a geological fact. Weβve burned most of our gas, and around 80% of our oil is exported. It plays little role in UK energy security.
"This isn't a choice between more North Sea drilling or imports β that ship has sailed. Itβs between more imports or ramping up renewables. The transition must be better planned...but as long as the spectre of more drilling hovers, governments will continue to delay."
My letter in today's FT:
Some highly questionable industry assertions about βtiebacksβ and new oil & gas exploration licensing covered by the Sunday Times this morning, incl. the volume of potential production & the impact on jobs & supply chains. Let's take a closer look: www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
